PostSubject: Catch of the day [Private, Cedric]   Tue Nov 29 2016, 11:25

Light danced through the surface of the water, a small smile dancing on her lips. Fish of glorious colours swam through the crystal clear waters which flowed from the Eye of the Gods. The safe haven and keeping place of the future fragments. The rather brightly scaled mermaid moved her tail in a flicking motion, causing the fish to scatter before coming back to investigate the salmon coloured tail.

Vyllaea's hands ran through the coral next to her, fingers wrapping around the freely flowing seaweed. She hummed quietly to herself, before, in a rather powerful and sudden movement, she would arch forward and dive between the fish. Her tail broke the surface for a few moments, before slashing back through the water. Thankfully, none of the creatures which dwelled in the sea really wanted to murder her at this current point in time. Besides, her break was almost up. It'd take at least five minutes for the guardian to walk back to her post, and she still needed to get changed back into the clothing she stuffed in the shrubs near the waters' edge.

Her brightly coloured tail flicked in annoyance again.

It was quite boring to her, standing around, emotionless and stubborn, heartbreaking almost. The difference between herself at home and at work painfully obvious to her. But she, slowly, learnt not to care about what people thought of her, especially when she was on duty.

She grumbled to herself again, taking a path to cut through the other inhabitants of the waters. It wasn't as if anything bad would happen... Right?

The warm air lifted Cedric up, his wings catching the thermal just right. Even though the Eye of the Gods gave off perpetual light, the stars were always available to be seen. Night still existed, Dark's eye watching over the circadian rhythm in his deeming of Order. But, the Thermals were just so much sweeter during the day. He had lazily shifted only four minutes ago, his stomach demanding satisfaction. He was thankful that it was a calm day, the winds barely doing more than a light summer breeze.

Even though he was about five hundred feet up, Cedric felt as though he should be higher. The River that flowed from Light's eye was pure, which gave an excellent chance to catch the supplies for his favorite meal. Salmon. His camp was nearby, scrolls and such still in his enchanted satchel that was so god damned expensive. A scroll meant for the guardians could wait, since they always seemed to make him sit for hours in lieu of their news.

His eyes were bright as he searched the leaps and rocks, chancing to find those tropical red scales to service him as he cooked. Of course, chance would have it that those brightly colored scales would come just as he called. Pinning his wings to his body, he spun into a dive. The Thunderbird lived up to his name, a loud crack sounding as his wings flashed open, jerking him out of the dive. Talons flashed into the water, latching onto the fish he had been seeking for the past five minutes. The damn thing was surprisingly heavy!

"I've got you now, you slippery sonovabitch."

Welp. That thought was a mistake the moment she said it.

A crack of lightning caused her to flinch, and she turned her torso towards the sky. The skys were clear, no signs of a thunderstorm. She tilted her head. That's stran-OUCH!! She screeched as talons grabbed her tail, instantly switching to a darker colour to match her attacker. At the attack, her tail flailed violently, trying to dislodge the creature digging into her skin. Just who the hell did this thing think they were?!

Her long abdominal muscles contracted, throwing her torso from the water. The motion was incredibly violent, sending the fish scattering as her form would take a mere moment to deliver a well deserved and earned death glare at the creature who so rudely attacked her. A moment after that, she would lunge forward, trying to knock them off if they didn't let her go. She just wanted them off!

"What's the big deal?!" She would shout after the black bird decided to let her go. Blood tainted the waters, deepening the reddish coloured scales of her tail. Vyllaea, if she was let go, would then scrambled to the shoreline, "What the heck was that for, you stupid bird!"

However, if he didn't let go so easily, she would try to bring him back into the water, before surfacing and giving him the same scolding. Seriously, who attacked someone when they were on a break!

Just as he thought he had caught his prey, the damned fish turned. A shriek startled the bird, his talons tightening down before he realized what had truly happened. Upon the violent thrashing, Cedric immediately let go- corkscrew diving onto the bank whilst transforming mid air. Electricity crackled around him, his hair standing on end from the sheer energy being gathered. His eyes glowed bright Cyan, as he crouched with a glare. He'd never seen a being like this before, and it confused him into silence.

Shaking it off, he stood up. It was obvious that he had hurt the female, and now that he thought about it.. She had to have been what the books described as a mermaid. Taking a deep bow, the feathers of Cedric's cloak brushed the ground. His feet were bloodied with the female's ichor. He was truly regretting what had happened, as it went against his... Moral code.

"My apologies."

Gods damn this woman. He was really hoping for salmon! Instead he wound up hurting a woman who wouldn't understand why she was randomly attacked by a stranger..

"I mistook you for prey in the water, and thus attacked. I hope you deign to forgive my mistake."

The bird let go from her, jumping away from her in an instant. In the next few moments, he dove onto the banks, taking the shape of a human-like male. Aside from the feathered arms... An ache came from her tail and she would give a low hiss, something which was appropriate for her current state. She matched the glare with her own narrowed eyes, aching from the tiny cuts. Oh this man! Bird.... thing! Damn him for cutting her! However, as the electricity danced around him, Vyllaea would hesitate from trying to attack him. She knew the basics of what water plus electricity plus fish meant.

She didn't exactly want to be fried.

"Maybe don't go for the biggest fish in the sea next time." She stated bitterly, her hand touching the sandy banks. "Also. Turn around." Vyllaea instructed. She would wait until he did so, before diving across to throw on her dress, furiously flushed as she was both mad and embarrassed. Her eyes turned to the sun for a few seconds, before sighing and looking to him again.

Seven. minutes until she had to be back at her post. Damn. She coulda spend more time in the lake. "What are you doing so close to the Eye?" She demanded, her hands on her hip, the elegant dress easily drawing out the cold nature of her. It, theoretically, should also be rather obvious as to her status as to why she wore it. After all, there were only two types of people in this world. Well, two to make any note of...

Just like Vyllaea had to do every single time when annoying people showed up at her station, she was cold to him. It didn't help that she was attacked by him...

Fist over his heart, he dropped to a kneel. Gods be damned, he had attacked a fucking guardian. Something's fishy about her... It was then he took in her features.

Long, gossamer white hair flowed down from her head. The light emanated from the Eye sending pearls of water to shine like diamonds. His breath caught in his throat. Jade eyes glared down at him, an air of annoyance almost palpable. As he was sworn to do, he stood up and told her the truth.

"I am here to deliver a report to the Guardians, in private."

He could feel the blood drain from his face as he spoke to this woman, his left eye pulsating with an agonizing throb. Of course the damned curse would act up, he was talking to a woman. One he found attractive, at that. Turning his back to her, he attempted to show an honorable retreat-mainly to head back towards his campfire to get that gods be damned satchel. He couldn't bear to look at her, her soft features still imprinted in the backs of his eyelids. Maybe he had just been isolated too long, away from the Eye's populace for such a long time that the curse was just overreacting.

Upon reaching the fire, Cedric secured his black Satchel to him. The magic immediately latched itself to him, a comforting weight for the Traveler. The feathers he had had enchanted glowed with recognition, opening to display the contents. Relief swam through him at the sight of the scroll.

At the kneel, Vyllaea would give him a small grimace. Damn this life. Damn this cold-heartedness. Damn not being able to get him off his knee.

Instead, she kept her hands where they were, taking the time to take in just what he was wearing, the feathery jacket, the jet black feathers across his left eye. It was something similar to an eyepatch. His hair was shortish, maybe a tad long for a guy, but Vyllaea didn't really care too much.

"Well, good luck in your task. The quickest way to where I think you want to do is to go straight west from here, this beach. It'll take a short amount of time." She stated rather simply, a scowl on her face as if displeased with him still. Well. She was. She was seething in fury.

The female would follow her own advice to the man, stalking along the sandy beach towards where she was going to be stationed. A grimace crossed her face again. With any luck, she wouldn't have to give him directions as to where he needed to go when he got there... Or else it was going to be a rather tedious and awkward explanation to him. But oh well. Not like it mattered.

That's what she continued to tell herself. Nothing mattered. Kindness was unimportant. Weakness. Bring distance. Force it. Force them to be scared.

It'd been six months since Cedric's last visit to the Utopian Core. Every time he wound up at the Guardian's gate, he felt small. Insignificant. The golden arches were smothered in gears, each glowing under a different enchantment as they ticked the time away in their motion. Tendrils of the yellow metal wove in and out, creating a cobweb of the precious metal over the gears. Should anyone mean harm to it, they'd be fried by the mystical energies it gave off.

He grimaced. The two automaton who guarded it were fifteen feet tall, their large frames made from the same materials as the gate. Shards of the core were in their being, the title of Traveler being the only thing to let him sense the raw energy of Light's eye. It was astounding that a fragment of the immense core, only as big as a fingernail, could power such beings for lifetimes. Not only power them, but absorb magical energies from people they came in contact with. They were the perfect soldiers for the core.

Cedric's thoughts were still on the woman from earlier as he waited before the Traveler's door, needing to get the news from the Temple of Fractures to the Council. Impatience made him bounce on the balls of his feet, legs sore from waiting so long.

"For gods sake, what's taking you Guardians so long to let me in?"

Heels gently clicked off the stone walkway, the pavers rebounding the weight easily. The giant forms of two mighty defenders waited at the gate, uninterrupted by the people who walked around them. Fellow guardians such as herself, and common civilians. As well as a few of those pesky travellers, all that they did was explore.

Oh how her heart longed to do that! To push the confinements of the walls away... But no, Vyllaea kept her head low, to ensure that she didn't arouse too much suspicion as to why there was a slight limp in her step. Every time she put weight onto that leg, she was downright certain that she kept reopening several claw marks.... Damn bird.

"For gods sake, what's taking you Guardians so long to let me in?"

Vyllaea couldn't help but smile at the anger and annoyance in the mans all too familiar voice. Irony at its finest. Birdman was here, stuck on the outside, and the patrols had just left here. If she wasn't late, she would have been able to help him much sooner. Her pace quickened and her face was a mask. "Are you here to deliver your report as you said earlier?" Vyllaea would ask him, her gaze half cutting into him.

If he did confirm it, she would nod, placing her hand on the doorknob. A faint glow of energy would transfer between herself and the door before she would be able to push it open. She stepped inside, then glanced at him, "Do you need directions for anything, Sir?"

Of course, it just had to be her. A grimace made its way onto Cedric's face, almost permanent in feature now.

"No, I need to give my report to the council."

Not waiting for her answer, Cedric strode past her. His long legs carried him easily across the floor, the paved brickwork giving easy grip for his feet. If he wasn't careful, the woman would make him pass out before he even got his damned alert in to the Councilmen. Hastening his pace, the paradigm shrugged off the escort.

If the priests at the Temple of the Fracture are right, we've got more problems to worry about than just negotiating for peace between the realms. If I'm right, Yvatis is going to have more than enough trouble for the Guardians to worry over.

Taking another sharp turn, the Paradigm stopped before the crystal doors that held the Councils in their meetings. He knew better than to get within touching distance of the diamond-like structure, unwilling to be in that stasis like last time. Of course, he was too late to take the report directly in. The next time the door would open was in five hours.

Struggling with a frustrated sigh, Cedric sat on the bench that rested just outside the doors. His luck was truly abysmal today.

Vyllaea tried not to seem too distracted when the man walked past her. She needed to go and check on the guards near the Council doors, as was her duty. Vyllaea hummed quietly to herself, a dozen or so paces behind the man with the rather feathered coat. She lost him as he went around the corner, but then she refound him once more as she took the same one.

However, he sighed and sat down on a bench, almost seemingly frustrated. Vyllaea glanced up at a clock, wincing a little. He only just missed them by a few minutes. Her form drew closer to the doors The guards weren't stationed at either side of the great crystal doors either. That meant the meeting hadn't started...

She debated leaving him there for the five hours which it would take for those beautiful doors to open once more. But it would be five hours of boredom, and if that report was important, then they needed to know. With a sigh, she spun on her heels and made her way back to him. She gestured to him with a hand. "Can I have it? The report?" Vyllaea asked, glancing up at the doors. Hopefully he would understand what she was planning to do...

Leaping off of the bench, Cedric dug into his satchel. Pulling out the long scroll that was made from seaweed, he quickly handed it to her.

"Please. The Priests need this in today. Oh!"

Wincing at the headache that turned its ugly head again, Cedric quickly pulled out the crystalline scale out of his pouch. The gem-like piece reflected the light in swirls of color, betraying thoughts of caution for beauty. The real issue with it was what coated it. Blood from the Yvatian folk was splattered along the side.

"I... Also have a burial message for one of the Guardians."

Pain yet again. Cedric was now annoyed by the pulsing in his left eye, the headache worsening as he spoke with the woman.

"Guardian Maisen gave his life at the Temple, giving me time to escape with the report. The Beast from the Lair has awoken. Those were his last words."

Taking a deep breath, Cedric returned to his spot on the bench. The metalwork was smooth, warm in the filtered light from the window. Leaning back, he took another moment to look the woman up and down.

The dress did her the kindness of making her eyes stand out. The contrast was just enough to make him curious, Even though he knew her rank and abilities as such. No Guardian came without being able to hold their own, of course. A sigh escaped his lips as he took in her figure- something that he would want to draw into life. Painting her skin would be a pleasure he hadn't had the ability to do for six months, his supplies useless in Yvatis. Even if the realm allowed everyone who entered to breathe whilst there, inanimate objects did not always receive the same love.

Memories of drinking with Maisen dropped a lump of guilt in the Paradigm's gut. The poor bastard didn't deserve what happened to him..

Vyllaea was stunned by his willingness to part with the scroll. It was almost as if it was incredibly urgent, and a small frown creased on her face. The seaweed scroll was passed to her, and she looked at its rather neatly bound form. This might be rather interesting, but the seal was still around it. By law, she couldn’t open and look at it until she was in the room...

She glanced up at him, blinking at the sudden noise. The feathery man passed her something else, a small blood covered trinket. Wait. That was familiar, had she seen it before? She felt her blood run cold as he confirmed that it was a burial, and a burial for the rather well known guardian, Maisen

Vyllaea frowned. He was renowned for his steadfast devotion to those who he protected. It was one of the reasons he was always chosen for the sole purpose of escorting people. He was devoted...

Vyllaea’s face fell as she nodded to the sad news, her mask breaking for a few moments before she gathered herself. She looked to him, bowing her head in appreciation. “Thank you for bringing this information in. I’ll be sure to let the council know.” The man had tried taken a seat again, without her really noticing. Neither was she aware that he had been somewhat... looking? At her.

“Please, stay here while I bring this matter up with them. If anyone asks, tell them it’s by the request of Vyllaea.” She asked and advised, dipping her head as she turned away. Vyllaea ascended the few stairs to the grand doors. Her hands pressed against the crystal doors, the faint buzz of magic recognising her and opening the doors. Her heart skipped a beat as she looked to the people who all stared at her.

Quickly, she entered the room, shutting the door behind her. She lowered herself to a knee, bowing her head as she held the scroll out before her. “Your honours, I come bearing something of great importance, something that we cannot just be ignored.”

Her voice rang in the silent hall, and she kept down on her knee, her eyes facing away from the people in the room. She would remain that way until she heard the voice come back to her, “You interrupt this session for a matter you personally have decided is important?”

Vyllaea rose to her feet, her heart rising in her throat. “That is correct. However, I do believe that you will understand why I sought your presence straight away when you see the evidence which I have with me.” She spoke clearly, the five councilmen sitting in their seats watching her closely. On to her right would sigh.

“Bring the evidence forward.”
He instructed. In a graceful motion, Vyllaea would rise to her feet and take a few steps to place the seaweed scroll and the other blood stained item. The counsellor would slide a finger underneath the seal, prying it free before beginning to read the content. While he did this, Vyllaea would turn to the other four people in the room.

“I was given this information by one of your reliable trackers. He reported a creature... No. The creature of the lair has been reawakened.” There were sharp inhales around the table, startled and shocked with the news. A man with a ginger beard sighed, “How do we know this information is accurate?”

“The blood stained amulet, Sir. As... I also bear sad news. Guardian Maisen isn’t with us anymore. He perished getting the tracker to safety, to seek help.” Murmurs were heard around the table, shocked remarks passing between them. She silently listened as they discussed further glancing back to the door behind her. Every second she wasted here was a second that she wasn’t able to do anything.

It took the next half an hour for the council to make a decision, and the head man turned called upon her name. She looked up, her eyes locking with theirs. “What may I do for you?” She asked casually, kneeling down in respect.

“You shall be punished for being the one to interrupt a session in progress,” He began, and she felt her cheeks flush, “That being said, your punishment is simple. We are aware of your abilities in water, so you are the most logical choice to pick. We will require you to take three travellers with you to the Lair. You are to gather as much information as you can before reporting back to us.

The three people who you will take are Lucifer, Anne and the one who gave you this scroll. You will be going back with them to the Lair. Find out what you can. Report back. And try not to have any casualties. This is your punishment for interrupting a session in progress, so at least take this half serious. We will settle the rest of the internal matters here. So go, collect the others, and find out what you can. Report back in a week.”
He declared.

Vyllaea would deepen her bow, “As you command.” She stated simply, before rising to her feet and leaving the room. She groaned quietly when the doors shut behind her. Damn, she was hoping to have a more relaxing afternoon. But it seems as though it probably wasn’t going to be able to. She made her way down the steps to the man who had, not only attacked her this morning, but also was the one who was going to be leading them back.

She gave him a slight bow, “I do hope that your wait wasn’t too long. But I require you to come with me back to the place where you had seen the creature. Two others will be joining us.” She instructed, agitation of being put on baby sitting duty almost evident in her voice. Vyllaea gave the feathered man an apologetic look. “I know you don’t want to go back so soon, but as soon as it’s over and done with, then you won’t need to go back there again. Unless you want to.”

Cedric began to pace. Thoughts of what the Council would do to prevent the beast that had came out from The Lair from demolishing Yvatis crossed his mind, and each time he felt utterly useless. The water area was difficult for him to live in, but he functioned much like the enchanted Eels that were down there. A shudder wracked his spine. Memories of Maisen's body being ripped into, his torso being the only recoverable part for Cedric to find..

Shaking the thoughts from his head, he resumed his pacing. The decision shouldn't take an immense amount of time. The Priests from the Temple of Fractures had put their insignia on the silver Seaweed, their finned bodies battered and scarred from defending what they saw as a holy symbol. They were kind enough to give the Traveler a place to rest, to stay and examine the Shard that they defended so fiercely. They gave him meals, answered his questions... Died for him, even. All so that he could escape, to get them help that they desperately needed from the Utopians.

The Diamond wall melted, causing Cedric's pacing to stop. His eyes locked upon the Guardian woman, his breath quickening. Did they come to a decision? His hope died as he opened his mouth, though... “I do hope that your wait wasn’t too long. But I require you to come with me back to the place where you had seen the creature. Two others will be joining us.” The Paradigm flinched, fists clenching as more memories flooded over his mind's eye. “I know you don’t want to go back so soon, but as soon as it’s over and done with, then you won’t need to go back there again. Unless you want to.”

Of course, she wouldn't know. She didn't know the beast at all. Or maybe she did? She was a water-kin herself... Clearing his throat, Cedric returned her apologetic smile. "Just as I'm sure you'd rather not deal with me, hm? Regardles... I suppose that I could, indeed, guide you. As for the two others, do you know their rankings and capabilities? If not, I'll need to ask them.." Cedric swallowed his worries, turning sharply he strode quickly towards the exit.

If he was supposed to lead a group of Guardians out to fend from the beast, the Council was truly taking this seriously. Their precious dogs being sent away from home to bark up another tree was a true feat. It was hard for him not to be bitter about this, admittedly. Having to go back to the site where he saw people be ripped to shreds by a gigantic aquatic beast while he could virtually do nothing was hard for him to handle. What was he supposed to do, lead these people to their deaths?

A realization came to him as he considered these thoughts. He was upset because he had a migraine. Of course, his fucking Guardian partner had to be a woman. Gods be damned this fucking curse that fucking inhibited his fucking mind. FUCK.

"Just as I'm sure you'd rather not deal with me, hm? Regardles... I suppose that I could, indeed, guide you. As for the two others, do you know their rankings and capabilities? If not, I'll need to ask them.."

The words stung her like a whip, and her face returned back to the stony face, cutting away all emotion that she had been showing towards him. However, before she could even answer him, he turned tail and bloody left. Of course he did. First he attacked her, and now he has the courage of a chicken and just leaves ideas and threats open. Jerk. Hypocrite.

A sigh tore free from her chest and she glared at him as he walked away. "HEY. You. Stop fucking running off." She growled, tempted to backhand the man for his complete arrogance and stupidity, for being such a jerk to him. Her feet caught the ground and took her closer to him. "I am fucking in charge of looking after you, even if you like it or not mate."

Vyllaea's eyes narrrowed, "Listen here, I'll ignore what you did this morning. Deal? We just need to get the damn information and then we can be out of each others hair. As it's quite clear you want absolutely nothing to do with me aside from absolute necessities!

So, here's the cold hard facts.

I'm your guardian for this whole ordeal. I will look after you. I will protect you. I will until I die. But after that, I swear you won't have to deal with me again."

Cedric closed his eyes. Of course, she was the one who was assigned to him. And, of course, his efforts to put distance between her and himself were viewed as hostile. And, of course she responded with hostility. This day just kept getting better and better. Steeling himself, he turned sharply to face her. Masking himself with a sneer, he crouched to her height.

"Oh, yes. And how long will you last against a Leviathan? Do you know what we're against? Have you even been out of your dog cage, you little mutt?"

His headache was worsening as he spoke, and he wound up grabbing his head.

"I'm such an idiot. Why did I let them convince me to go to the most bureaucratic corps in all of the Eye?" More pain blossomed, and he staggered. He was pushing it. He had to push thoughts of this woman out of his head, or he was going to pass out. Snarling, he went back to striding to the exit- albeit slower. "What's worse is that I need to eat before I can Travel again..." The last sentence was muttered, a chastisement for himself as a merit of doubt. He hadn't felt like this in so long, this pain... All of it was getting to him, and he was just standing by to let it do such.

Anger burning in her eyes, she would glare daggers made from the pure flames of hell at the stupid, self-righteous squawk fuck there. Oh of course that jerk had to just, literally, stoop down to her level, his face pulled back in an ugly sneer. If she didn't have something to do, she would have turned around and bitch slapped him into the ground.

"I'll last longer than you ever could, you stupid, arrogant jerk." The second half of that comment had her stumped, a growl of frustration wanting to tear itself from her throat to pound him into the ground. Oh how he just LOVED pissing her off!

"You want food? Is that why you tried to bloody kill me this morning?!" She shouted, "You could have just fucking asked nicely, now let go of your damned head and fucking come with me." She demanded, her eyes blazing with anger. If he would let her, she would literally grab him and half drag him to a food court. There, she herself would pay for the bastards meal and shove it in front of him.

The woman had heart, Cedric gave her that. The food court was domed, like in most of the market areas. Thankfully, the center had a fountain that hailed pure water. It was tested daily, but the magic that kept the Eye pure kept it pure as well. Most people traded credits for cups and dunked them in the fountain, claiming that the taste was different than the rivers and such.

Cedric preferred soda.

The booth he sat at had a grand view of the skylight, colors blossoming from the mist of the water in a display that would have left him in awe if he hadn't seen so many magnificent views like such before. Before him, a plate of salmon was sided with a spread of cream cheese and two bagels. It was his favorite semi-meal. Lox.

More food was beside him, his metabolism had burned away almost every ounce of fat in the past three days. Cedric was scarfing the calories down, desperate to have them in his body. He would never admit it to her verbally, but more than a few appreciative glances were given to the Guardian as he ate his fill. He was lucky they ate for free, here. Most meals were free to Travelers as well, but fish were.. A special case.

Leaning back, Cedric gave her another look over. The light did her good, even when she was red with anger. Porcelain skin, jade eyes, all of it just knocked Cedric's breath away.

It'd help if she weren't such a cunt.

Her back was pressed against the soft red satin of the chair, her cheeks flushed the same colour as the material in which she sat on. Vyllaea would seem distracted as she sat there. Outwardly, she would appear to be fuming, beyond any reason of anger towards this man. This ungrateful thunder bird. To her, it really just wasn't fair. She shook her head, unknowingly raising her elbows to rest on the table. Her face would bury itself in her hands, her mind delving into information which she knew about the leviathan....

From what she remembered, a leviathan was an incredibly long, powerful jaws... those teeth were like razors, serrated and deadly. Her eyes dropped to the tablecloth, through a crack in her fingers, ignoring the mounds of plates on the opposing side of the table.

She couldn’t eat, not when she was about to go into a water planet. However, she also refused to eat as her nerves wouldn’t allow it. Something that killed a fellow Guardian was always something to be afraid of. Oh, why didn’t the people listen to this mans warnings! Why didn’t they send more guardians, surely they knew that, even with her other form, she couldn’t protect them if the group split up to explore and find clues.

Vyllaea sighed quietly, saddened eyes glancing up to the guy just stuffing his face. Why he did, she’d never know, but she took her hands away from her face. "Are you ready to go now? She asked, attempting to be kind.

Frowning, Cedric finished the last of the bagel. It would seem that the madam wasn't exactly excited to go to a water realm. Thinking back to what the Council would have known about this particular Guardian, she seemed perfect for the job. Apparently not to herself, as she had her face in her hands and was shaking slightly.

Huh.

"Are you ready to go now?" Cedric offered a slight smile, before picking up the fifteen plates he had eaten. He could feel the gashes beneath his cloak knitting together finally, gifts from the scales of the Leviathan as he had exited through the Portal. A shudder went through him at the thought..

"Yes, I'm ready now. I appreciate the kindness you've shown for the food. And I'm still going to apologize for earlier." Slow it down, Cedric. Don't vomit all the food you literally just ate, she'll get even angrier. Taking a deep breath, an apologetic smile flashed across his lips. "The water-kin in Yvatis aren't as... Graceful as your form. I've never seen someone like you before."

With a shrug, Cedric took the pile of dishes to the sinks- washing off the crumbs before putting them on the conveyor line to be sanitized and reused. The methodical cleaning gave him time to pause. Was he truly going to be taking these people back to the Leviathan? And, even worse, was he sending more people to their death?..

She didn't miss the slight shudder from him, and her lips pressed firmly together, expecting him to turn around and scold her once more.

Vyllaea was taken aback, an attempt of kindness being met with an equal try, and the lowered her head in an inclination to him to acknowledge that he thanked her for half forcing him to get food. A look of guilt flashed through her eyes. If her past and her current status would allow it, she would have extended a slightly kinder hand, but no. Bars formed in her mind, pressing against the heart of freedom and kindness that curled within her. That's not who she was. That's not what she was taught. Rules are there. Never to be broken. She was trained for this.

"Think nothing of it. I'm your guardian. I can't have you going somewhere on an empty stomach. I also appreciate the apology."

Wait. What? She sat still for a few moments, surprised at the half compliment which he had given her. A small smile tugging at her lips. Surely, just this once... It wouldn't hurt, right? Making her mind up, allowing a wisp of kindness to reach through the burning flames, she followed him.

"You're complimenting someone like me- something seems a little fishy here..."

A free Guardian, obviously on duty, would walk past and Vyllaea caught their arm, requesting that he took the other two to the portal before the hour was up. Not only was this to aid them with leaving sooner, but it was also to hide the cheeks which felt as if they were burning.

A guffaw rang throughout the moderate-toned area. This Guardian actually had a sense of humor that lined up right along side his. A broad grin now on his face, his headache was ignored. He'd suffer a bit for the cause of a good joke.

"For a Guardian, you're not a bad catch."

Or, maybe not. The grimace came back, and his hand flashed up to cup his talisman. Gods be damned that one hurt... Was it because there was more inflection behind it? No, it was the emotions. Had to be. Taking a deep breath, Cedric kept his pace even with the woman's.

"The name is Cedric, by the by. Cedric Vael."

Even if it felt like a horse had kicked his head, he couldn't just keep being rude to the woman. She'd just fed him, his favorite meal even. Even if Guardian's ate for free, it could have been expensive to feed him on her reputation. Thoughts like this continued to pursue his mind, the company he had being much more comfortable to be with than before. What worried him, then, was what would happen if they got any friendlier. It never worked out with women, his curse made sure of that... There was a reason he was sent to the Water District, Yvatis being a beautiful place just was a bonus. There were less females there to agitate the restriction of character. Sure, everyone could breathe under water in the Glacial Palace and the Territory surrounding it... But, for whatever reason, he was just special enough to be placed in an area where his abilities were equivalent to useless. At least, when people were around him. Different thought for a different time.

"For a Guardian, you're not a bad catch."

Oh he did not just go there! Vyllaea felt a genuine smile crack on her face, before she would simply turn and raise an eyebrow to him, her fellow guardian glancing at her in surprise.

"I was wondering when you were going to give me your name, Cedric, as I have already given mine to you, thank goodness you didn't let the chance to tell me swim by." She gave him a wink, "Vyllaea Ylldra, in case you forgot."

NO! The voice all but roared through her mind, vivid imagery of the crimson flames dancing through her mind, the scolding and harsh voice tearing into her. Friends feed weakness, all they do is betray you. Don't you befriend anyone, you stupid girl! Vyllaea internally flinched at the words, he was... the voice, memories of her upbringing, all too clear to her. The iron whips slashing across her back, barbs cleaving skin from bone. And the fire... the worst thing of all burnt the wounds.

Vyllaea felt her stomach flip, and she shook her head. Her face was pale, but she continued to walk in front of Cedric, her lips in a firm line. She wouldn't return to that horror. She wouldn't return to the beatings, to the torture. Vyllaea refused, but in the end, who can stop the fire that no one saw coming? The bar replaced itself across her heart, trapping what she felt.

"This way, Cedric." She would say over her shoulder, before continuing her task in leading the man to the portal. When they got there, the other two would already be waiting.

Hmm.

Cedric watched Vyllaea stride before him, following her exactly. The bright smile on her face gave him hope that maybe they'd at least have an even tone with each other... At least, until she jerked away with him. Her skin was even paler due to whatever episode that was. Though, admittedly, he found himself curious about what would cause her to react in such a way. Bad parenting?

Shrugging off the thought, he relaxed himself into an easy smile. They were in the hallway of the Water District, runes and gears ticking away magically to keep the portal up and running. Guardians were stationed every thirty or so feet, along with Soldiers. A frown met his lips. This was bad. There were less than when he had previously come into the Eye. That made absolutely no sense with the news that he had brought in for the Council to read.

He caught himself looking at Vyllaea. Did she know about the lax in policy? Or was she unaware? Hell, for all he knew, she could be taking him back to find out more, only to decide with the council as to whether the portal should be maintained for Travel. It wouldn't do any good to close it, they'd kill so many people..

Of course. There was always the option of her being innocent, and that they were doing exactly what she had said. Scouting. Scouting meant that reinforcements would come from the information.

Hmmm...

Vyllaea's eyes would scan through the thirty or so people gathered in the area, the faint hum of the energy flowing through this place causing her to shiver a little. It was a placed filled with magic, potential, energy which could dance at the fingertips. She glanced down at the weapon at her side, humming in annoyance. Great. Of course she forgot to change it...

"Missing this?" A voice called out, and her head snapped around. Seeing the incredibly long weapon in his hand, Vyllaea slowly smiled. She turned to Cedric, "Please, excuse me for a few moments."

Her feet took her up to the man, her fingers already working to unclasp the belt which held the sword to her hip. "You always remember to bring it for me, what's with that?"

The man flinched, "The amount of times you've needed it... and not had it."

Vyllaea gave a shake of her head, before offering the belt and sword to the man, who would swap it with the long polled weapon. It's tip was a few feet over her head, but she needed the length to aid her with the graceful movements in her Siren form. Siren, Mermaid, whatever it was... She never figured out the name to it.

"Your squad is to stay here until we return with the information that we need, or send the signal... Hopefully, we can stop any unnecessary deaths." She said simply, before withdrawing her form away from the group. He nodded, giving a more of a formal salute sort of thing, to which Vyllaea inclined her head. She would shake her head, fingers curling around the long weapon as she walked back to Cedric. Vyllaea beckoned a group of two with her as well, recognising them as the trackers that they needed. "Come on you two, step on it!" Her voice snapped like a whip, completely by accident.

Her hand felt damp and she glanced to it. Nerves? Why? She shook her head, looking to Cedric. "Are you ready to show us and help us gather as much information as we can?" She asked, glancing at the other two who were proposing that they split up to cover as much ground as they could.

Just what Vyllaea didn't want to have happen...

Cedric stared flatly at the two trackers who were accompanying them. Neither were licensed Travelers, which left the Paradigm in want of something. Of course, it didn't help that he recognized the two of them from bars around the Eye. They obviously recognized him as well, sneering in his direction.

"If we split up, it poses a risk to the group coming out as a whole. We're fighting a Leviathan." Pulling out his sketch pad from the knapsack, Cedric flipped to one of his drawings. A large, four legged beast was drawn onto the page, eyeless sockets staring out from the paper. "Salamander, Class A dwellings. The Yvatians think it came from The Lair. You tell me, would you rather you two faced this bastard alone, or would you like to have some damned help?"

"Why should we listen to you?" The taller of the two asked the question, his body looking like an eel with legs and arms. There was a name for that, Cedric was sure, but he honestly didn't give two shits. "Aren't you just supposed to point us in the right direction? The Guardian's the one in charge." Rolling his eyes, he let out a sigh of exasperation. These two just didn't get it. "I'm supposed to take you there so that we can gather information. In case you're not intelligent enough to understand my words, let me dumb this down."

Electricity was coming off of the agitated bird-man, eyes narrowed. "Firstly, Vyllaea is her name. You fucks are going to listen to not only her, but me. My feathered ass has actually dealt with the beast. I don't see any Traveler markings on either of you, so shut the fuck up when it comes to commands. You can give suggestions, and we'll talk over the merits and downsides. Secondly, gathering information means that we have to come back with it. Alive. You know, the opposite of dead and floating in the water. Now then, when you're done with having your heads up your asses, follow Vyllaea. Dipshits."

Cedric had had it up to here with these twats.

Vyllaea closed her eyes, listening to the three of them bicker. Oh how much of an amazing escort this was going to be. She'd have to keep an eye on herself from being friendly, as well as make sure that these two didn't provoke the rather angry feathered man.

She opened her eyes in time to see the electricity sparking from him and her breath caught in her throat. Oh shit. Those were the only two words that came into her mind as she listened to Cedric scold the two idiots, and she turned to them, a hand on her hip, her head tilted to the side. A sassy look to show off irritation. When Cedric had finished, she nodded curtly. "He has a point and I want you both to shut up and listen. We have limited time. So, any disagreements you have, for all I care, you can go and throw them out the window. We don't have time for that. I need to be able to dish you out orders and you follow them. If you can't do that, then don't fucking come. I need people I can rely on, people who will get information back here." She scolded, taking her hand off from her hip as she took a step towards the two trackers. "And neither of you two have bloody registration like Cedric does, so shut the hell up and listen to him and I. I am the one in charge of you guys."

She scolded, before her eyes narrowed, "If you two sorry bastards think you can take on something that killed a fellow guardian, you are stupid. You literally have a death wish. Complete and utter death wish. You stupid fucks can just shut up, stop being so arrogant and 'heroic', or foolish, and follow my orders. I am in charge of your safety. As soon as any of you are in trouble, it's my responsibility to get you out. Do you fucking understand what I'm saying?!" She shouted, backhanding the taller one across the face when he snorted at her. He reeled backwards a few steps, shock on his face as she then turned a piercing glare to the smaller one.

"You stupid idiot, I want nothing more than to get this mission done, I want it done and dusted. I want it CLEAN. Meaning no deaths and the only one who has the RIGHT to split away from you guys is ME. And that would be to serve as a distraction for your sorry asses to get out of the area alive and report back." She lectured, a pool of water near her stirring as her anger rose, "I have it in my right mind to abandon you both here and go alone! But the council has asked for us FOUR. So you all will listen to what I will say. Do you understand?"

Before either of them could answer, she would cut them off again, "Good! I'm glad you do. Now. Get your ass through the portal." She glanced to Cedric when the other two had turned away, muttering to themselves. When they were out of earshot, she sighed, lowering her head. The water calmed. "I'm sorry about them... I don't know if I'm gonna get us all back..." She mumbled before raising her head to follow them through the portal...

Definitely had heart. The woman's language spoke to him like a lover to their partner. Sadly, he couldn't trust himself with her. If that's how she was going to handle these two, then they were doomed. Sure, he could be crass and bull-headed as much as he watned. But she was the leader. These two wouldn't take kindly to being batted around my someone with-

Clearing his throats, he shook off the thought. No need to focus on her lovely bust.

"Damned if I do, damned if I don't."

Steping through the Portal between the two points in reality, Cedric had to take a moment for the runes to protect him. The water had weight, sure, but his body wasn't built for it. Thankfully, he was used to how the Rune reacted. Relaxing, he kicked off the base of the oceanic floor. The bubble of air would filter oxygen through the water, thanks to the Shard's protection. It was always odd, swimming like that.

The steps to the portal home now below him, Cedric pointed his body south- towards the light of the Temple of Fractures. That was where the beast was, and gods forbid anyone be hurt still. Maisen had made sure to chase it off temporarily. Hopefully that time was enough for them to scout.

"Towards the Temple."

(( And they are now back here! ))

Vyllaea's heart beat faster in its cage, beating against the bone as her nerves rose. The man was falling limp beside her and the guardian was moved. Her duty was to protect him. She growled to herself, parting the water slightly ahead of them to reduce the pressure against her as she continued forward, pressing towards the fastest speeds she could achieve.

To stop herself from going any faster, and to stop herself suddenly, she swung her in a wide arc around her, pressing against the opposing forces with the water. The large mermaid would force the stop a few moments before she got to the portal. Her tail flicked open the chest, grabbing the clothing from there. She let Cedric go for a moment, throwing the dress over her form, before grabbing him once more. She slung his arm across her shoulders, to prepare to help him when they stepped back through.

Annoyingly, no Guardians were nearby to help her.

Vyllaea would push through the portal and take Cedric to the food court. She would rest him gently against the familiar fabric of the booth, opting to choose one in a quiet corner of the room. "Give me three minutes, alright?" She said, "Technically I'm still meant to look after you, so... just wait here."

When she would return, Vyllaea would pass to him a few plates of... the fish... the one which she looked like this morning. Salmon. She sighed quietly, after he would begin to eat...

"You shouldn't have done that Ced... Honestly, you could have died..."
