PostSubject: Catch of the day [Private, Cedric]   Tue Nov 29 2016, 11:25

First topic message reminder :

Light danced through the surface of the water, a small smile dancing on her lips. Fish of glorious colours swam through the crystal clear waters which flowed from the Eye of the Gods. The safe haven and keeping place of the future fragments. The rather brightly scaled mermaid moved her tail in a flicking motion, causing the fish to scatter before coming back to investigate the salmon coloured tail.

Vyllaea's hands ran through the coral next to her, fingers wrapping around the freely flowing seaweed. She hummed quietly to herself, before, in a rather powerful and sudden movement, she would arch forward and dive between the fish. Her tail broke the surface for a few moments, before slashing back through the water. Thankfully, none of the creatures which dwelled in the sea really wanted to murder her at this current point in time. Besides, her break was almost up. It'd take at least five minutes for the guardian to walk back to her post, and she still needed to get changed back into the clothing she stuffed in the shrubs near the waters' edge.

Her brightly coloured tail flicked in annoyance again.

It was quite boring to her, standing around, emotionless and stubborn, heartbreaking almost. The difference between herself at home and at work painfully obvious to her. But she, slowly, learnt not to care about what people thought of her, especially when she was on duty.

She grumbled to herself again, taking a path to cut through the other inhabitants of the waters. It wasn't as if anything bad would happen... Right?

"My purpose is to retrieve the Guardian Vyllaea Ylldra, who disappeared whilst conducting patrol for the Eye of the Gods." Calmly, Cedric stretched out his senses- inhaling more of the energy the place practically gave to him. There was a spot, in the room beside him, where an empty residing took place among the cyclone of heat. Turning his gaze to the room, a frown made itself obvious. His canteen was over his shoulder, instinct declaring that the necessity of water was there. Taking it off, he set it on the door by its strap.

"I know she's here. Did you know that the blueprints for this house have no indication of underground dwellings? The Law of Peace demands that all Violence be held within one of the known Sanctuaries. This, along with the torture chamber you have down here, is in violation of the Sanctuary and Peace acts. You've notified no one of your building's mistakes."

The Traveler lifted his gaze, drawing the heat from the door closer. Within a moments notice, he would act.

"This could mean one of two things. Either A. you had no idea that these dwellings were down here, and thusly came into curiosity and the need to traverse the underground rooms before notifying the Guardianship..." Putting a hand to the door, he raised his voice. "Or B. You're breaking so many gods be damned laws, that I couldn't fucking list every single one of them. If the latter is the case, mind you, I'll have to bring justice for Vyllaea in the stead of her Guardian mantle. I invoke Citizens Arrest as so, if it were to be the case."

He relaxed his stance, muscles tightening in his wrists and fingers- preparing to summon a god damned storm.

"I really, really hope that it's option A. I'd rather not risk harming an innocent."

Vyllaea would sense the life giving liquid be placed close to the door. Her desire, her need, her want for that substance was barely equaled by anything else, the only other thing which came close was her needto worry about Ced... Why was he here? Why did he come? Vyllaea silently listened, her eyes squeezed shut to block out the sounds of the flicking fire. The water in the flask would slowly brime over the top, steadily crawling through the strands of carpet and towards the crack under the door.

However, the man would have a few thing to say against that.

He saw the faint shimmering of the water slowly escaping the bottle and he would sigh. "Ya know, there's also a rule. One may not enter the home of a fellow guardian without convent. They may also not claim to be working for them without their written consent. And I highly doubt that you have written permission, if you do, you have broken rule 12 under the Guardians Code. You also broke the lrivscy policy as well, section 3/a... You should rember that rule...

So, let me ask you.." The mans ginger suddenly stopped, and Vyllaea's eyes cracked ole. To see the stationary flames.

"Are you breaking and entering, bird man?" He demanded to know, his hand suddenly clenching.

The water would suddenly stop where it was, and Vyllaea would double over, exposing her back to the sudden angry tongues of wrath. Within an instant, they would come into contact with her skin, and she would do her utmost best to force herself not to cry our loud...

The only sounds she made against the roaring fire were words of hope. Words of trust. Words that she never thought she would say about another male...

"Save me, Cedric. You're the only one who knows this, please help me..." She whispered, prayed and hoped as the tongues aye away her skin...

As the man simply smirked. Either Ced could stop what he was doing to Vyllaea, or he could try and fight the man..

But it was truly upon the feather mans decisions as to what he would do, and the male watched Cedric closely...

"No, but a Traveler may do anything to save a Guardian. The Law of Peace will prevail."

With that, Cedric moved the energies of the household around, the mechanisms holding the doors getting a surge of energy into the locks- forcing the door open with immense speed. Flames lost their heat, as Cedric took all of the thermal energy and condensed it into lightning around him.

Looking at the man with disgust, he understood something.

"You're not even truly here, are you? I can feel so much distaste here, so much magic used to torture that it clouded that."

Motioning the spear slightly, he sent the electricity to discharge against the man, walking through the heatless flames to carefully pick Vyllaea up. Her burns were harsh, second degree and two third degree burns clouding her skin. Anger made his muscles flare over the agony of touching her naked form, washing away the pain of his curse in its torrent. Even though she weighed that of a normal woman, Cedric gave no hints as to it bothering him. Instead, he put the Canteen in her lap, caring enough to lift the burnt hair to cover her form and give her a sense of purity.

"What disgusting man would dare harm a woman this way?"

More electricity flowed around the two, offering a form of shielding as he strode back into the hallway. The spear was slung over his shoulder, the chains offering purchase as his eyes glared the man down. The Talisman was in his hand, beneath Vyllaea's prone form.

"That's right. No being worth the title of man."

As the flames melted her skin under their intense heat, Vyllaea also smelt the sickening scent of her hair burning, the white locks becoming rough and charred. Her pale skin replaced with fire itself, and her mind could no longer accept what was happening to her. She was going to die in the embrace of her biggest fear, given to her by her father. Or the man who called her that. She felt her mind shut down, accepting of the grisly fate.

She didn't even feel the wind come through to press against the flames, push them from her. Her mind locked itself out from the world... Allowing it to sink to the bottom of her care. Unconsciously though, her form would curl into Cedric's gentle hold, as if he was her true guardian.

The man, however, seemed uncaring of the accusations which Cedric accused him of. With a smirk of contempt crossing his face, the man would give a rather large shrug. "The bitch knows why she is treated this way. I adopted her on the condition she would always listen to me and do as I said to." He explained rather simply. His eyes lingered on the gorgeous burns across her skin, and he sighed quietly.

"You are the reason she is suffering, you foolish bird man. Without you, she would have been fine.But no. You caused her to turn away." He growled, the walla around them combusting in the heat which he expelled.

"Id put the girl down and leave if I were you..." He said simply.

His words chilled the Paradigm. Vyllaea's suffering was... His fault?... He knew that she was injured because of their odd... relationship, but didn't know that it was truly this miserable. Holding her form tighter to his chest, Cedric continued to change the excess energy of the flames around them into electricity, using it as a shield between him and the insufferable man.

"No child would know what they were doing. You're a criminal for thinking as much."

Cedric's gaze lingered, his face neutral.

"She's going to be free of your burden. Don't look for her."

With that, he ascended the stairway, continuously bouncing the heat into the shield. Should he follow them, Cedric had prepared Odin's eye for use- so help him he didn't want to. Instead, he kept his mind on the shieldings, taking his torn shirt off to keep Vyllaea decent. Exiting to the bedroom, he picked up a sheet- wrapping it around her body firmly. He knew the man would follow, but he didn't have to worry for too much longer.

Out of the corner of his eye, a flash caused Cedric to flinch. Realizing it was just a picture frame reflecting his energies, he shrugged it off- until he saw the photo within it. Snatching the frame up, he put it within the Guardian's sheet before quickly hurrying out the door, into the night patrolled by Soldiers. This was his best shot, the shield causing them to look towards him. Defensive magic was allowed, offensive refused. They'd be even further on guard, two approaching the building.

Without faltering, he set Vyllaea on the ground gently before shifting his forms, picking her up in his talons. Silently thanking the celestial Gods that he was strong enough to do this, he lifted himself skyward- into the clouds that he could defend himself in. The thunderclap of his wings brought more attention to the house, hopefully giving him a true chance to lift himself skyward.

The man would be seething with fury at Cedric's words, the torrent of flames shift in from the roll beside them. It tired to consume them, but only succeeded in touching the wall and rebounding from it.

Angrily, he would glare at Cedric left, but he wouldn't leave the underground home and, after Cedric left the a in walkway in, he sealed it shut. No one would be entering for quite some time, not while he needed go prepare his plan...

Vyllaea's fingers were the first thing which would allow movement, her mind slowly returning from the grasp of the unconscious realm. She groaned quietly, her wounds stinging all around her. Vyllaea cracked her eye open, tears stinging it from the light overhead. She moaned, the scalding water around her pressing into her burns. Then she blinked.

He didn't allow water into his home.

Panic blossomed in her chest and she threw herself up from the confinements of her bath, the air heavy with steam. Her lungs inhaled it, grateful from the change from the dry heat, but her eye was wide with fright. Nothing around her she recognised. Nor did she recognise the shirt... Or did she?

She shook her head and raised her hand to the doorknob, ignoring the vicious burns against her skin. The first thing she needed to do was find out where she was and then for her to go home. If she left for too long...the punishment would be incredible. She pushed the door open, looking for a way to get the hell out, and for some darn pants.

Cedric lived in a three-man cottage on the edge of the Eye. Resting just above a cliff that separated the River from the Ocean. The house was two stories, the living spaces being up stairs. Three rooms rested, two having their own bathroom sets. The last one was smaller, and its bathroom was at the end of the hall. There was no tub, unlike the other two. Rather, it had a small shower and vanity.

Cedric washed the blood off of himself, tired from a long day. He had Traveled for an hour to Necrotia, to grab something for his guest, before heading back. It had taken every ounce of speed in his body to make up for the time of the Travel, knowing that an hour there would be four here. Thankfully, he had gotten back in time to reheat Vyllaea's water. The holy script sat on the vanity, next to a plain-Jane fountain pen. Hopefully, this would help him talk to Vy without any irritating qualities.

The talisman rested above it, the feeling of freedom needed in the steaming shower. His eye ached from use, but he couldn't rest without getting the utmost care for her. A couple of ah.. Favors, had been called in. Her cot had been given holy sigils from Yvatis, which would hopefully heal her faster.

Letting the water wash over his face, he took a moment of pause. That man had said he was her adopted guardian.. But... Adoption here was bound to the Council, they had to clear or pause anything that happened. It was damned annoying, but who would have the balls... Or power? Did he have sway with the council?

Vyllaea pulled the water with her, for once, her magic showing its face as it curled around her, slowly resting against her right arm. There, Vyllaea would hold it against her skin, the most serious injury being held by the gentle water. She would have tried to heal it, but with her racing heart, she doubted that she could.

Wait. Why was she burned?

Her eyes flicked down to her right arm, shock edivent in her face. She didn't remember this. Vyllaea didn't remember receiving brutal wounds. She tried to recall her memories, play them back go herself. The only thing that she could remember was a voice, no, two voices, and the everpresent flames. She shuddered, wishing that they didn't exist for a few moments, before turning to the door at the end of the hall which she stood in.

Vyllaea could hear the faint sounds of running water, and she bit her lip. The water had been warm, and the steam in the room would have been at least two days old from the sheer volume which had accumulated. It was deliberate.

But why? Who would have done that? Surely the man who caused her such vicious wounds wouldn't have then tried to help her... Right?

Chewing her lip, Vyllaea slowly and shakily made her way towards the door. She raised her left and slightly burned hand. The knuckles would rap twice on the door, her heart in her throat. Even though she wanted to speak, there was no way that she would be able to manage it.

Yes, the man definitely had to have some form of sway with the council. He had gone into a place that was sacred to the Guardians, which wouldn't have happened unless he himself was one as well, or a higher rank.

Cedric's train of thought was interrupted as two soft knocks came against his door. The only person in this house besides him should have been asleep, recovering in the steam room. Suspicion hit him hard, and he quickly shut off the water. Grabbing the light blue towel beside him, he wrapped the cloth around his waist.

"Just a second."

Putting the sigiled notebook and fountain pen into the vanity, he quickly checked they were hidden from sight. Too much light from the runes... With that in mind, he quickly put one of the wash rags in over the runic marks. Maybe that'd help hide it? Shrugging, he gave up and closed the wooden case, turning once more to the thought at hand. His steel door was there for conductivity, mainly to shock people who wished to enter. He'd never had any of his guests or roommates knock before, so he didn't figure it worthy of damage.. yet. He could still use the metal as a magnet, should needs arise.

Opening the door with a yawn, Cedric rubbed his good eye clean of the steam that swathed out from the shower room.

"Mm..?"

Vyllaea was taken aback by the rather unusual mans appearance, and she turned her head away. Her face was flushed, embarrassed from having interrupted him from his shower. However, she could recall the man, the blonde hair sticking to his head and the incredibly muscular frame... Surely she would remember someone like that, right?

In an attempt to be polite, she gave a partially shy smile. "I just wanted to say thanks for the help." She began, her voice dry and cracked, "But... Would you mind.. Mind telling me..." The tone of her voice showed confusion, disorientation, a lack of kindness towards him, "Where I am? And just... Why you took me here?"

She sighed quietly, her hearts fire for this man gone, "Because there's not a single thing I remember here..." Her voice dropped, "I just want to go home."

Cedric's blood ran cold.

She didn't remember anything.

His eyes went wide, energy arcing into the light- causing him to wince when it went out. "S-Sorry... My emotions can make it h-hard to deal with that.." He flexed his shoulder, shrugging off the burn that was there from two days ago. He had taken it from the door opening to her... For lack of a better word, her cell. "You don't... You don't remember anything? Anything at all?"

His eyes darted back to where he hid the book, along with that strange photo he had picked up from her house. So many questions he had for a woman who had no answers, not even for her self. Sighing, he gave her a pained look.

"Vyllaea..."

The headache came back, another spark of energy coming through. Cursing, he slammed the door open the rest of the way, yanking the gods be damned drawer open to put the talisman back on his face. So much anger, pain, guilt, regret... It all burned him, and he had to grip the marble sink to breathe. The runes sparked, unable to hold all of the disquiet from the curse. "I'm sorry. I'm not okay." Gritting his teeth, he went back to her questions. "You're at the edge of The Eye of the Gods, just outside Utopia. My home resides sixteen miles from where we first met, where I mistook you for.. anyway."

Hissing in pain, he turned back to her. "I saved you from that god damned torture chamber your.. Adopted father called a house. He.."

Frowning, he realized he was going to fast. Inhaling deeply to calm himself, he crossed his arms.

"I'm sorry. This is all too much for me, I can't imagine how it must feel for you." Another sorry look... He couldn't stop the urge to raise his hand to her cheek. His muscles tightened from the pain, almost shaking again.

"Vy..."

The mans sudden shock and seeming anger took her by surprise. Vyllaea took a step back from him, the lights being caught in a sudden surge of electricity. The lights blew out and Vyllaea instantly pulled the water in the air to her. It formed across her chest, the front of her body suddenly covered with a shifting ice. It was a basic defense, even if it cooled her drastically. The man apologised and went back into the room, frantically searching for something while she answered him;

"I don't remember anything..."

As he bent over the sink, Vyllaea could feel a worm of worry begin to cloud her mind. If she had never met him before, why would he be acting this way? Se felt herself take a step forward, opening Ber mouth to ask if he was alright, but he already managed to beat her to it. He wasn't okay. He was far from it.

He told her exactly where she qasband she lowered hher head in a sign of acknowledgement. She was about to turn, to leave, when he mentioned her father. Her blood drained from her face like water through a seive and she felt bile build in her throat as her stomach twisted. How did he know of that place? Why the heck would he have taken her from there.

What she didn't expect was for her heart to twist a small frown coming on her injured face. You're gorgeous... The two words sprang into her mind and Vyllaea blinked, her heart slowly beating faster in her chest. Surely she would have remembered calling someone that, right? She withdrew slightly when she saw him raise his hand, shakily resting it against her cheek. Crystal tears fell from his heartbroken eyes and she felt herself mirror the gesture he did.

"Don't cry..." Were the only words she could manage. Vyllaea carefully stepped forward as she felt it right for her to do so. She wrapped her arms around him, holding him firmly. The muscles, the way he held himself, it was so damn familiar... But why?

She ignored her burns, agony lashing through her mind as the gesture caused extra pressure on the sensitive areas. But through the pain, she remembered his heart broken face... But slowly more memories came back. She had felt this same way when she thought she had lost him to the salamander, that undead bastard. Her heart caught, her breathing faltered as memories broke like a dam. Confusion danced through her eyes, but shock rose above them all.

Vyllaea took the man she admired, cared for, loved and took them down into tears. And it was her own fault, her memories being locked away. But his touch, his sadness, the care he had was enough to knock down the walls. Tears freely fell from her face, the bandages across her eye dampening.

"C-Ced I'm... I'm so sorry!... I swear I couldn't..."

A fresh wave of agony sent his body into spasms, his arms crushing her as she did he. Jasmine wafted from her hair, which Cedric cried harder upon seeing the singed tips... This was all his fault, all the agony that this woman had gone through lay upon his two shoulders. If he had just not met her, maybe she could be fine, maybe she wouldn't be undergoing the healing that she needed now from the second degree burns that lashed her alabaster skin... Why wouldn't she just fucking tell him what was going on? Why would she just riddle him this, riddle him that!? Damn it all they had saved each others lives! He had almost given his to save her...

Snarling, he grabbed her by her chin-forcing her to look up at him.

"God damn it woman! I told you to be careful! Why didn't you fucking tell me what was going on?! Did you think I would abandon you?!"

Hot, angry tears poured from his good eye, his questions demanding answers. Gods knew that he loved this fucking woman, but be damned if his muscles didn't shake like he were being electrocuted. His talisman blazed Cyan, matching the intensity of his gaze.

The snarl caught her off guard, and her head was forced back and to look up into his blazing eyes. They were glowing with anger, the thunder seemingly cracking with every word he spoke. The blown light seemed to flicker at the wake of his wrath.

But Vyllaea didn't flinch.

The questions, no. The accusations were scalding, the mans pain evident in his eyes. A growl rose from her chest, her heart aching.

"Do you think that me neglecting to tell you any of this was to hurt you?" She asked, her voice deliberately calm, but built like the ocean itself was about to break. Her eyes matched his own anger and, quite suddenly, she would poke this gorgeous man in the chest, his handsome features even more so while his anger burned, unquenchable.

"I did it to protect you! I didn't know if you would have been able to do anything, and I didn't want him hurting you! Do you not think that I care?!" Her voice slowly raised, clipping every damn word she spoke, "I didn't want any damn harm to come to you! I'm so damn sorry for caring about what happens to you!"

"I DIDN'T ASK YOU TO CARE."

His hands moved to the door, his anger blazing to life in a matter of seconds to melt the steel out of electrical patterns. After that, he picked up the door knob-crushing it in his hands.

"Yes, he could have hurt me! I could've been killed! But so could YOU! YOU THINK I WOULD GIVE MY HEART TO YOU, JUST TO WATCH YOU DIE!?"

At that he threw the charred door, ripping the side of his towel. The thunderstorm outside cracked with energy, as he held his head. Gods be DAMNED he had a migraine. Anger boiled in his stomach, causing him to hug himself. Cedric's body was barely holding up to his emotions, let alone what they meant.

Gasping for breath, he turned his gaze back to Vyllaea, poking her chest in return.

"You could have told me, communicated that caring would hurt-"

Shouting he held his head, the Rune blazing to life again. His muscles went through a series of spasms, attempting to ward off the electrical signals going to his body. His heart was breaking, and the sixty years it had been since he lost his eye caught up with him.

"I didn't ask you.. To care about me..."

The six words broke Vyllaea more than anything else in the world could have. Tears of anger, sorrow, confusion and pure agony fell from her eyes. Her face, instead if being shocked, twisted into a mask of pain. She allowed his words to lash out at her, to strike her and burn her more than her step father ever could.

Vyllaea looked away.

"How can you say that to me?" She asked quietly, "I chose to care because I loved you. You were the only person who even bothered trying to talk with me despite how I treated you. I-Ced?"

He doubled over, grabbing his stomach as if it would tear him in two. Things happened quickly and the man shouted, grasping his head, and Vyllaea would grab his arm.

"It was the only thing I could do after you saved my scales! I'm slightly shocked.. I.. Thought you knew I cared, dammit Cedric! Isn't that what love is?"

The words left her mouth before she could stop them.

Shit.

The door swung open, creaking throughout the house as Aster walked in. His announcement home was cut, an odd feeling grasped his attention first.

His right hand hovered over his magnum as he crept, coming up to the first door. He grabbed his magnum as he approached, but found nothing. "Curses, Cedric.. What happened.." Before he could call out, someone else had done it for him. Shouting was heard down the hallway, and he recognized Cedric's voice. "There!" Coming up to the doorway, he blindly turned the corner to an odd sight.

He first noticed a girl, from what he could tell. Her entire body was hard to look at. His eyes darted from the girl, over to Cedric. It only took him a moment to link the two together, and rushed over to the two, bits and pieces of broken glass crunched under his boots. "Tch, curses indeed! What happened, here?!"

"Perhaps his curse, but I've never seen him this bad.." Glancing over to the girl, he winced at the mere sight of her. "And what could possibly be her story.."

Cedric's eyes widened at Aster's arrival. The bastard hadn't shown up in weeks, and suddenly decided to drop by?

His heart was making irregular beats, muscles going through spasms as the curse worked its punishment. He wouldn't die by the damned magic, but it would definitely hurt in the morning. More of the spasms wracked his body, his arms contracted slightly from the pain. Of course it would be now that she told him.. A bubble of laughter came through his lips, eye wide from the echoes of his personal issues.

"Aye... Food... Not burnt, preferably.. Vyllaea.. Severe burns. Please, please don't do anything rash around her..."

A suggestive look was thrown towards Vyllaea, as Cedric's back met the framework of the door that had, previously, been what made his shower room decent. A curse was mentally thrown at himself as he understood the repercussions of it. Taking deep breaths, the Paradigm felt the curse pulse at her words- an echo of her reactions. Hopefully his roommate was still sharp enough to deduce the hints of the woman's personal life he was trying to give the man.

Swallowing down the pain, he waited out the contractions before his body went into a limp state. Gods knew that he was going to regret whatever he was going to say in the morning, but he couldn't let things lay as they were. Slowly unpinning the talisman, Cedric gave a last bitter look towards Aster. He'd knew what he was going to do. Man, did he really pity Aster for coming in when he did. Of all the dumb things that he was going to do, triggering the curse without his talisman had to be a dumb one. The runes that he had had inscribed made sure he was the only one who could remove the damn thing. It was pretty much invulnerable, thankfully. But..

A sad smile came to his lips. What was he if not a daring, idiotic man? Reaching to caress the woman's cheek, Cedric gave Aster a meaning-filled look. If he didn't get the cue, he was damned to die. If she didn't know the truth, he was damned to live a life not worth living.

"Vyllaea... The feelings are mutual."

There it was, Odin's eye discharged a burst of light, before Cedric slumped to the ground-fully unconscious.

Vyllaea took a few steps back as the man came closer to them, demanding to know what had happened. The gun in his hand made her on the defensive for herself, the waters in the pipes beneath their feet and overhead freezing from her stress. However, it seemed the man near her knew the other, Cedric demanding them to go off and make some sort of food for him. And apparently it was not to be burned.

Cedric's form heavily leaned against the doorframe, memories of him tearing it away playing through her mind. However, his body shuddered continuously, before he rose his gaze. Cedric's eyes locked with her own as he had removed the talisman, before speaking the 5 words.

Instantaneously, the eye would explode in a shower of light, to which Vyllaea flinched away from, covering her eyes until the light had passed. In panic, she would look to Cedric, her form kneeling down next to his. She felt her blood freezing in her veins. He was out cold. The pain he felt was her fault...

Shakily she rose her gaze to the gunman. She didn't know what to do... But the food.. Maybe salmon? The danced through her mind as her body ached..

But she couldn't make a decision, the pain excruciating from her burns. She needed to cool them. And damn fast.

Aster flinched back from the light, and took a brief moment to process his friend's state. Knowing he wasn't going to take wake up soon, he knelt down to Cedric, holstering his gun. His attention was split between him and the girl. "What else have if I missed in my absence.."

Softly lifting Cedric from the ground, he raised himself slowly. With a sigh escaping his mouth, he turned his entire body so that he could meet eyes with the strange girl. He gave her a softened expression, hiding his confused and admittedly worried aura from her, assuming she must've felt the same.

"Unfortunately.. We're not at our leisure, here. I need to get him back to his room." His tone was calm, but noticeably in a hurried state. "I'd hate to ask a favor of a stranger like this, but he will need food." He gave a very telling expression, his words theatrically emphasized to pass the question to this new face he met over the unconscious body of his friend. "So much for introductions.."

Vyllaea wanted to reach across Cedric and hit the mans hand away from him, a look of worry coming across her face at the very sight of the gunman. Thankfully though, he wasn't showing signs of aggression and, instead, matched hers of concern. Or so she had hoped.

The stranger had carefully lifted the fallen soul from the ground, holding him firmly and as if the weight meant nothing to him. The implication of his words were met with a stern nod. "Give me some time, and I'll be able to get you something worthwhile." She said rather firmly, her tone almost daring to question her as the facade rose again to cover her trusting nature. "Meet me at the shore of the river in half an hour, and don't be scared of me." She instructed, "Just... Look after him." Vyllaea sighed, before hobbling her way down and to the river. She would submerge in a few moments, her tail replacing the human legs she once had. However, the scales were burnt, the flesh red and raw, the fins along it tattered and torn. A dreadful sight for such an elegant creature.

However, in the freshwater, vyllaea dived down, her eyes searching quickly for her prey. Which she found in just under twenty minutes. She hunted and gathered a few dozen of the brightly coloured fish, before beginning her return to the edge of the water
However, there was no way Vyllaea would be able to return to the land, her burns only soothed in the cool water as it brushed against the sore injuries.

She curled up just below the waters surface, the dead fish curled in her tail. There, she would be forced to wait for Cedric's friend to come by... And all she could do was pray he didn't murder Ced...

"The river?! H-Hold on a moment-!" Aster tried calling out, but there wasn't much he could do but trust her. Whoever she was.

Carefully taking Cedric through their home, not without a few murmured ramblings to himself and the situation at hand, he set him down in the bed, letting out a sigh as he wiped his brow after properly situating him. "Shouldn't be able to cause much trouble here, I hope." Turning to the doorway, he left the room to began a damage report.

"Nothing too bad..?" He exhaled, looking around the damaged room he found the two in. "Can only wonder what happened, but I can guess with Cedric and that girl. To such extremes.. What was he thinking.." Dismissing the sight for now, he noticed the time was reaching the woman's instructions, and he began to leave the house to the destination. "Why the river.."

Too many questions struck his mind for him to worry about, so he focused on the girl who asked to meet him. Leaving the house, he made his way down to the riverbanks nearby.
Approaching the edge, he spotted.. Something. "Could that..?" Running closer, his suspicion rang true when he approached. "Hello? Stranger girl?" He called, unsure but believing it to be her. "I believe I came here on time.."

Vyllaea smirked a little as she saw the figure come closer to the waters edge. The siren broke through the surface of the water, her burnt form and arms casting the fish to him. They would land at his feet, and the female would suddenly recoil.

The sun scorched her skin and she shrunk back into the waters. "You're early. But.. Take all the salmon, he likes that most." She said simply, "Ensure that you cook it all, he might eat every single fish... If you didnt know. And also, take good care of him, I won't be able to go back to the land too easily. If you saw, on the tree back there to the left is where I tossed his shirt that... He leant me."

She gave a small sigh, "The name is Vyllaea, and please, take care of Ced. I'm assuming you haven't killed him..." She let the accusation roll off her tongue, not exactly trusting him. "If he wakes up... Pass on that if I'm needed, I'll be in the river. This is more soothing than being in my human form, especially when I'm... Burnt to a crisp."

With that, Vyllaea's form would sink further into the waters again. She was at home in the vast spance of water, but it was here that no one could follow her. Especially ones made from fire...

Aster kept his surprise at the girl's transformation hidden, only offering a two finger salute with a confident smile. "I'm Aster. Glad we could salvage a proper introduction!"

He took a moment to eye the pile of loose fish at his boots, taking quick glances around the immediate area. His expression perked, however, noticing the shirt that was mentioned. Swiping it off the ground the young man made his way back to the pile.
From the sleeve of his jacket, a sudden knife sprang from a mechanism wrapped around his arm. It was connected to a wire, and he used it to tie the shirt together, holding the fish.

Standing up and slinging the bag over his shoulder, he looked back to the riverbank. "Thank you for your help, Vyllaea." Turning around, he began his path back. "With any luck our next meeting will be under calmer circumstances!" He said aloud as he walked.

Life sure can be funny sometimes, however..

Approaching the door, Aster walked inside, the home unchanged since he first arrived. For better or for worse. He sat the fish down on the counter for when he returned, making his way to Cedric's room. Peering in he saw the same man he left. "For better or for worse.."
The fish began their process, Aster glaring at it like it would speed it up somehow. His thoughts began pressing themselves as he sat in silence, completely in the dark to what had happened.

"Curses, Cedric.. What did you do.."

Cedric welcomed the abyssal realm of thought. Here, his thoughts manipulated his reality. It was only whenever he progressed too far with the curse, that he wound up here. He'd only ever achieved it once, and memories of that moment still floated here. It was like standing atop a mirror, with water just over the surface.

His eyes looked down, meeting his own. Here, he was whole- Odin's eye just like his own. It was odd to see his face without the marring, and at first it had put him off.

"You know that staring could make you go blind, right?"

His eyes darted up, meeting the intruder. It was Her. Reading his thoughts, a smile lit her face up. She was just as he last remembered, their final fight not affecting her gossamer black hair in the slightest. The only marring she had was on her chest, where Cedric had struck here with a bolt of lightning- in trade for the injury of his eye. They had both thought the other dead, the only difference being that he had truly killed her.

"Mm. Not truly. My magic lives with you, therefore you could deduce that so do I. But hot damn are you a boring sonovabitch."

Rolling her eyes, the red leather of her warrior's dress flared to life, fire around them blazing hot. Of course, that god damned element was everywhere. He easily blamed her for it, cursing her as a magnet for the flames. She merely shrugged, neither confirming nor denying the statement. Pacing, he noticed his old gear was on him. Black leather pants, riddled with belts to hold them to his form. Instead of his baggy white shirt, he had his tattoos bared out for the world to see- Runes of his being on his chest and abdomen. Feathers still stayed on his forearms, but his hands were gloved in iron gauntlets.

"You done looking at yourself?"

The Phoenix merely stared at him, her flames growing. She had taught him to conform the flames, to use them to further his own goals. A delicious peal of laughter came out from her, as the flames contorted into the illusion of a small blonde girl- the image that he had been deceived with. The one he had thought their child.

Snarling, he took the heat from the flames. Dispersing the illusion was the first presence of mind, an attempt to rid himself of the toxic thoughts. Saandra merely laughed at him, shaking her head. Ruby lips tilted upwards in a smirk. Gods how he wished he could strike that off of her, to cut away the magic that made him impure and tainted his mind with his presence.

Once again reading his thoughts, she strode up to him- her height matching his six feet. She grabbed his chin, despite memories of Vyllaea strengthening him in attempts to jerk away. It was comparable that she was part of him, his body denying him the respite from her hand. Her lips curved into a wolfish grin, white teeth reflecting the light. Her amber eyes blazed, the fires too hot for him to handle.

"You're mine, Cedric. The only way you're going to get rid of me is by the way of our oaths- till death do we part."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Cedric jerked awake, sweating from the nightmare-based coma. His eyes darted around, trying to ascertain where he was. The familiar oak flooring and silver walls immediately comforted him- he was home. Head pounding like he had a hangover, Cedric stood up. Stumbling forward, he grasped the edge of his window. His hair was plastered to his head, showing that whatever he saw in the coma had to be at least somewhat real. The river flowed easily, despite the drop of the waterfall being near. It was almost lazy, much as he wished he could be. Vyllaea... Did she understand that he loved her? Gods, why was he such an idiot? Yelling at her like that...
Rubbing his face with his hands, Cedric turned away to rest against the sill. Aster had arrived, and like an ass the paradigm had forced his roommate into a situation that he wouldn't fully comprehend without a full backstory. He was a being of fire and passion, someone who had slipped the Thunderbird's mind as he was entrapped with Vyllaea. Crossing his arms, he stared at the oak door that would lead to the hallway, and to the stairs at the left of his room. Should he go and converse? Attempt to explain his happenings on?
Quietly debating, he realized he didn't have any pants on. His baggy linens had been ruined by the blood from Necrotia, his only pair left after his Travels. Until he went back into Utopia for shopping... Wincing, he pulled out the black leather pants that held so much iron, that they'd conduct whatever he chose to do. Pulling them on, strapping the belts... It was almost a far-off dream, instinct kicking in to do the work that his mind wouldn't focus on.
The pants were like a familiar weight, his body unused to them after so long. It wasn't something he liked, but he didn't have much of a choice if he were to remain decent. Hopefully Aster would get the hint, the man hadn't seen him wear these since.. Saandra. The name sent a spike of warmth from Odin's eye, and he quickly searched for his talisman. The feathered piece was on his bedside table, snatched up by his pale, shaking hand. The heat didn't leave. Her magic knew.
The smell of cooking salmon wafted up through the doorway, causing Cedric's stomach to growl. It'd been ages since he ate, worry for Vyllaea taking presence over everything else. Walking forward, he figured that the only way out of his own thoughts was to leave them where they lay. His bootless feet met carpet, well worn from his pacing in the morning. Taking a moment to steel himself, he made his way down the wooden steps- towards the kitchen were Aster must be cooking.
Nerves jumbled up his mind as he rounded the corner, spying the form of his friend.
"Aster... Sorry..."
Vyllaea would watch the mad gunman acknowledge her words as he would move to the tree which contained the rather large shirt. Carefully, the man took it back to the fish, stacking them on the white shirt. Then he picked the bundle up to hold it in his arms, before turning tail and leaving her alone. The man would walk up the dirt and wood path which wound around and back in on itself, stretching back to the house. She sighed, casting her eyes away to the waters rippling surface.
Cedric... Why couldn’t she take her words back? Why did she speak without thinking, it was her fault, her wrongdoing that caused him to sink. That caused the eye to destroy him. Why did she do that to him? Didn’t she love him?
Didn’t he admit to her that he loved her?
Vyllaea made a startled cry of pain, her hands pressing against her chest as she back flipped, her body sinking deeper into the water. Her heart twisted in her chest, constricting as her tail coiled around itself. Agony flowed through her body, her lungs seemingly crying for air. Pain flared through every movement, every inch of her being. Bars which were formed around her heart, instead of forming around to protect it, she felt them slide straight through the organ. Vyllaea doubled over, her burnt hands curling into fists as she pressed them against her chest. Why! Why did this hurt so much?
The siren didn’t want to hurt him, she never did, but these bars, the iron chains... They were something that she only formed when she was in a dire need, a want to protect something, someone, or herself. But what would her heart desire to protect?
Cedric.
The name slapped her in the face, and she dove deeper into the river, her scales finally shifting to become darker, blending in with her surroundings. She groaned, her tail ceasing with its movements. Her form coiled around her chest, her tail wrapping around her. The broken and tattered scales and fins trailed behind her, the bandage formerly wrapped around her face finally giving way.
NO NO NO! This was all going wrong! Panic curled in her abdomen, her right hand pressing against her bloodied face. Shit. Stop.  Suddenly, the waters around her were pushed back, every inch of it cleared to leave dry ground beneath her feet. Her feet. Shit. She howled in pain, the water slowly cascading around her again. Thankfully, the addition of water wouldn’t kill her.
WHAT THE HELL WAS WRONG WITH HER!!
Vyllaea always had complete control of her powers, but no, they were spasmodic, random, uncontrollable. Her heart raced, the pain increasing from the iron shafts carving straight through her. She felt tears sting her eyes as she forced them shut, her mind shutting down to allow her body to recover, lulling herself into anther deep state of rest. Her body coiled in the deepest segments of the lake, curling around itself. The tail would cover her, the scales blending to look as if she were merely the bottom of the great river.
The furthest she could be from Cedric, yet the very closest her heart would allow it, to protect him from ever feeling that agony again.
Aster raised his eyebrows at the sight of his friend. Alive, that is. He kept his seat, staying in his slouched position he had been in. His mind had time to catch itself up, so his racing thoughts had settled, able to keep a cool demeanor.
"Sirens, a wrecked house, curses, fishing with sirens.. I've had quite the day." Sliding off his chair, he began taking the fish out, the smell blooming out in the room. Turning to meet eyes, he gave a slight grin. "So I hope for the honor of knowing what started it all." Placing the food down, he began preparations for it with surprising delicacy. Perhaps too much time in the kitchen with Alys, he always thought.
"That friend of yours is fine, before you ask." Turning his attention from the plates of food to Cedric. "You can thank her for the fish later when you meet her again. By, or in the river, I should say." His expression turning, a few bewildered glances around him. "Since you don't seem to mind that curse anymore, it seems."
Cedric grimaced as he took the fish from his friend, shaking his head.
"It's not that I don't mind it. I've been having muscle spasms, deterioration of thought, and recurring patterns of abnormal energy. I've had to replace the lights six times this past week."
Sitting on the counter, he shoveled food into his face. Gods it felt amazing, the calories immediately taking effect. Sighing, he gave an appreciative look to Aster. He didn't know why, but damn could the man cook.
"But... For her..."
Cedric closed his eyes, leaning back against the wall.
"I'd go through it all hundreds of times, just to see her healthy again."
Understanding that his friend wouldn't know about the recent events, Cedric launched into a long explanation about what he had done to retrieve her from her father's home, and how the burns had occurred all over her. Once finished with that, he gave a shrug. Maybe Aster would understand, after all. He remembered him having a sister, and that he had done a lot for her.
"My arms cannot physically hold her without turning into jello. It's like trying to hold water..." Sighing, the paradigm looked to Aster with pleading eyes. "I spent all of that time in Yvatis, trying to find out how to break this damn thing. Maisen died to the Leviathan to save my arse before I could get it, but... I took advantage of killing the beast. They gave me a writ that blocks black magic's punishment. I'm going to write her, and explain the taboo and everything..." Another grimace. "As soon as I can convince her to come up from down there." Thoughts formed in his mind, piecing together the puzzle.
"Do you still have that guitar?"
"The trouble that follows you.." The few words escaped, oblivious he had spoken. His expression darkened, however his back turned to the counter away. The numerous problems his friend's situation would bring danced in his mind, fully aware Cedric knew them as well, his stone firm voice all too telling.
Completing his plate while he listened, he turned to the counter to see his friend's already gone. With a sigh and small grin, he slid his plate across the counter to him. Taking his own seat again, he rested his head upon his hands, skimming through the events told in his thoughts. "She seemed pretty eager to leave here, regardless of wounds, so who knows if meeting her will go down as swimmingly as we hope. However.." His grin widened as he turned to his friend, a snap of his fingers creating a small spark, pointing upstairs. "Should still be in the closet."
A broad smile struck Cedric's face as his friend not only passed him a few extra calories, but also gave him a chance.
"Y'know Ashter, you really brighten up my life."
~~~~~~~~~~~

Making his way to the riverside, Cedric couldn't help but stop and think over just what he was doing. He was about to sing to someone who had never heard him attempt such a thing, who probably hated him now even. Putting the strap of Aster's oakwood guitar over his shoulder, the Paradigm began the first few chords, the red metal of the pick gliding across the strings.

His feet touched the water, and he continued to walk until he was up to his thighs in the icy liquid.

"Well I heard there was a secret chord....
That David played and it pleased the Lord....
But you don't really care for music, do you?
Well it goes like this: the fourth, the fifth
The minor fall and the major lift-
The baffled king composing Hallelujah"

He let the low timbre of his voice echo softly with the chords, each string setting off a rhythm of its own. Tears welled in his eyes as his heart went into the lyrics, his fingers playing the notes just like Aster taught him all those years ago.

"Your faith was strong but you needed proof...
You saw her bathing on the roof,
Her beauty and the moonlight overthrew you...
She tied you to her kitchen chair
She broke your throne and she cut your hair!
And from your lips she drew the Hallelujah..."

He progressed further, his hips now in the water. He had to widen his stance against the current, deepening his grip on the guitar so as to prevent water from overtaking the instrument.

"Baby I've been here before-
I've seen this room and I've walked this floor.. And you know...
I used to live alone with Aster before I knew you...
And I've seen your flag on the marble arch,
Love is not a victory march!
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah!"

His voice broke on the last word of the verse, tears flowing freely from his eyes. The cold Cyan of Odin's eye was nowhere to be found, his voice carrying past the river and into the forest. Songbirds stopped, either scared or entranced by the chords he played.

"There was a time when you let me know,
What's really going on below,
Like with that Leviathan you know!
But now you never show that to me, do you?
But remember when I moved with you
And the holy dove was moving too-
And every breath we drew was Hallelujah!"

His tone rose, arcing with the song's composition. He may not have written it, but damn it if his heart wasn't broken already. Taking a deep breath to prepare himself for the last verse, he couldn't help but pour his feelings into the words.

"Maybe there's a God above...?
But all I've ever learned from love
Was how to shoot somebody who outdrew you...
And it's not a cry that you hear at night
It's not somebody who's seen the light!
It's a cold and it's a broken Hallelujah"

Standing still, he let the chords of the guitar fade into a low strum of the song.

"But now the story begins to fold,
Maybe you'll be here or go,
It's all up to you and the choices you go through..
Maybe you'll stay here with me,
Or leave me to turn to the sea,
Just know either way I'll sing...

Hallelujah.... Hallelujah.... Hallelujah.... Hallelujah..."

The last chord faded into the day, Cedric's eyes closing to hear near silence of the nature around him.
