Vyllaea grimaced, the face of the sea volcano towered over her head. If the siren had followed the instructions right, the portal should have been near here. She sighed, her hand raising to scratch at the back of her head. If she continued with this, there would be no way back. Not to mention she forgot to ask for Negene to say good bye to Cedric for her, in case this didn't work as she planned. Mind you, she didn't even know what she wanted to do.

All she could remember was trying to see if she could track down that guardian who was supposedly killed all that time ago.

With a quiet sigh, she rummaged around the belt which hitched a small backpack to her side. Somehow, don't ask her, but it wasn't wet, and neither were the contents inside. She just assumed it was due to magic. Biting her lip, she hummed almost silently as she looked through, her hand stroking against the side of the flask containing the Mite. Vyllaea rose the flask to eye level, swirling the contents inside the bottle. Sure, it was small, and the colour of the container tainted so it was mildly hard to figure out just what was in there, but she could see a small life form moving through the liquid inside.

With a small smile, she put the container back into the bag, zipping it up. When she was back on dry land, she would swing the backpack over her shoulder.

She glanced back up at the volcano, continuing to circle the place that Negene had explained to her. Vyllaea felt her face freeze when she saw the inky purple-black which was the surface of the seemingly spasming portal. It's surface was tainted, not the smooth and delicate swirling blues of the ocean. This was harsh. Ragged, harsh.

Deadly.

Vyllaea smirked, a vicious smile that reflected the deepest parts of her soul, underneath the emotional layers that always existed. Here, there would be no forgiving for her mistakes that she would make. There would be no one to show her how to do things properly - have to learn on the go.

Identical to her guardianships job.

After ensuring that the coast was clear, Vyllaea pushed forward. Excitement and a death defying willpower burned in her core as she looked at the rippling and erratic surface of the portal. The mere look of it would turn the faint of heart away.

In an instant, she swam through it.

...

And the reaction was instant.

Human legs morphed, changing her appearance in mere moments. The scales were replaced by human flesh, and her clothing... She threw that on very quickly as she made her way out of the entrance to the portal. Vyllaea crouched down, black and grey paving crunching underneath her feet. So far, Negene had been truthful, nothing seemed to be alerted to her presence.

She was hidden by a slab of uncut grey stone, her white hair standing out like a sore thumb. Vyllaea tried not to think about it, taking a cloth out from her pack. Quickly she tied it over the white strands, hiding them behind a protective sheet in which no one would be able to see.

Now she just looked like a fugitive. Grand. Perfect.

Vyllaea didn't really care. She pushed herself to her feet, the water container gently tapping against the bottle containing the Mite. The place wasn't much to look at, a whole heap of semi-destroyed homes, some still standing, but many were still down and destroyed due to what seemed to be because of those giant creatures. Which would make sense, considering the size of that creature that Cedric managed to take down with ease.

Vyllaea shook her head, clearing her thoughts. "Where did you go, Maisen..." Vyllaea asked herself quietly, her eyes narrowing to find any sorts of movement. It was rather strange, the area around her seemed to be so... quiet compared to what she was expecting. This wasn't the sort of husstle and busstle that it was around the portal - but perhaps this portal was one that was created solely to attack the waterfolk. But that wouldn't make sense, not unless these people had something against her kind.

But she couldn't create a form of care about that at the moment, Maisen was out here somewhere. Vyllaea began stalking through the darkness, walking so others couldn't see her easily. She would rather die than let him get away with whatever he was doing. At the very least, she would bring him to the council - for forsaking a Guardian's role. For lying. Putting lives in danger.

That was the most mild punishment that she would ensure that he received. She wanted this lying snake locked up at and to be at the mercy of death itself. It was the very least that he deserved. But the trick would be tracking him down.

And maybe winning a few bar fights would be what she needed to do, judging by the sounds at what seemed to be a local tavern. Surely they would know of any abnormal people around...

Negene's stomach clenched as the swirling portal came into view. He had to squint his eyes so that they gave no light from where he resided in her shadow, but Vy's form easily twisted from the waters to the human form that he'd only seen a hint of before. Snow white hair was quickly hidden- thank Light for that -under a band.

The dilapidated homes were as they had always been. Empty of their previous owners, crushed under Levi classes. Mite classed Amalgams ate through walls in some parts of the homes, any blood splatters that had been there before chewed away under the tiny being's hunger.

A shiver went through him. Sure, he was helping a woman who entertained him. But was that actually worth losing his home back at the tavern? Or being recaptured here?

Swallowing, he noticed her gaze sweep over to- Oh Shadow forbid. Morganne's tavern. How the hell was that still open? He couldn't warn her without giving away his presence, and that would surely be a bad idea. Making sure that Vy's attention was elsewhere, Negene peeked up to sweep his head around. Unusually, there were no border guards. No one to catch the Merfolk that would be uplanded and unable to go back through the portal. Ice ran through him. Normally that meant that they had already found something. But, sometimes, that meant they were expecting a game.

Calm down Negene. No one can see you, and surely no one would know that Vy would be coming through. But, that does beg the question... Does anyone else know she's here?

Vyllaea strode with a seeming confidence down to the door of the tavern. Scrawled with bad handwriting and a rather broken and tattered looking sign was the name of some sort of tavern. Or so she hoped. By the amount of racket and carry on going on inside. Peeking in through one of the rather broken windows, she managed to grab a rough layout of how the room was set up. Instantly, she recoiled from the area, taking a step back and around the corner where nothing could see her.

She used her hand, sighing quietly to calm her nerves. Vy needed to be unrecognisable. Flicking her fingers underneath the bandage, she pulled it over her forehead, tucking it underneath the band that kept her pale hair hidden. The cool air brushed against the still tender flesh, causing her to take a hiss of pain - which was drowned out by a sudden shout of approval from the bar. The injury was sensitive, but aside from that, it was just downright impressive. The scar trailed over her cheek and across her brow, the eye white. In the low light of the plane, she didn't need to squint to be able to see the blurs and false images that her injured eye gave.

Vyllaea then turned back to the doorway, her head tilting side to side. The bones cracked, muscles loosened easily as she rolled her shoulders. She flicked something on her belt, allowing a small downward-facing blade to break through the leather. It was incredibly thin, but it would do exactly what she needed to do. Peirce through the surface of the skin. Just what she needed.

She opened the door, stepping through it as another punch landed. A brawl was happily taking place - perfect. Vyllaea slide inside, slowly walking over to the bar stand as she took into account everyones reactions. They were a bunch of sadistic people around - they actually enjoyed beating the living daylights out of one another!

Another punch, cheer and a few bets placed later, Vyllaea took her seat at the bar, a partial grin on her face as she watched the rather ill created folk spar it out.

"It's not often we get new customers. How are ya?" A voice asked behind her. She glanced up to them, her good eye taking in their appearance rather quickly. Scruffy. Malformed arms. Black vest. Longish tattered shirt. Another punch sounded - who needs bouncers when everyone around here fought for fun?

Vyllaea nodded, "Not bad. I guess." She half sounded annoyed, but also a bit lost. This wasn't unnoticed by the bartender, but his eyes glanced over to the fight. "Take any bets? Looks like Norm's going to win." Vy slowly turned to face him, giving him a shrug. A frown came over the bartenders brow.

Oh shit.

"I haven't seen you around before - are ya a new Amalgam?" He asked, his eyes narrowing slightly as he took in her appearance, posture and surgical injuries. She certainly didn't seem like anyone that she had seen before in the past.

Vyllaea gave a sigh, before nodding. "What gave it away?" Vyllaea asked, attempting to divert the direct question. However, it was also enough to answer the bartender without lying to him. The man seemed to be satisfied with the question, "Oh, just that ya are so different. Seems like they did a number on your face." He gestured to it, and she chuckled lightly.

"Oh, you have no idea..." Vyllaea answered, making the bartender smirk a little. "You'll get use to it once it's healed." He said easily, but judging by his answers, Vyllaea knew that getting information from this man may be easy - but... She just had a feeling that it wasn't going to be reliable information. But that was exactly what she needed...

'Norm' scored another hit, the bartender smirked as his opponent recoiled. "Oh this is a good match - sorry for being distracted. What are you Assigned?" He asked. Vyllaea turned as subtly as she could to the fight, pretending to be impacted by what he had said. She smirked as the still victor scored another hit, a sharp crack following as 'Norm' broke his opponents arm. Surprisingly, the opponent got up again, keeping on with the fighting. They really did like going at it without rest... Feeling that the wait was long enough, she blinked and turned back to him, "Sorry, to what... you said, I don't actually know." She said honestly. But apparently, that was the wrong answer. The bartender and a few others who had heard the last few comments sent a few judgemental, worried and angry glances to her, as if she had committed a terrible act of crime.

Shit. That wasn't a good sign. Her arm was near the blade and she was ready to do it, the silent stare of the bartender burning into her mind, almost burning holes where he stared. "Did you go back after release?"

Worry started overflowing her mind, but she never let it show on her face as she returned the look he gave to her right back to him, just less intensified. "No, I didn't."

Yup. She was fucked. She knew it the instant she said it as he inhaled sharply, his eyes refusing to leave her.

Fuck.

Morganne would have known what was up almost instantly, but the dolt working didn't fully understand that she wasn't an amalgam. Her scar did look pretty fresh, and that was enough to give anyone here doubts that she was a stranger. Usually the fresh ones were from Their Lab, and that meant that she somehow got out. But, if she hadn't gone back in their eyes...

Rising out of the floor, darkness dripped around Negene's skin. As if made of ink, the dripping spun in the water, slowly settling like a fog. Emerald eyes blazed into light, adding a new hue to the firelight as he tilted his head back slightly. Morganne's eyes widened, his body recoiling from the presence of the Amalgam."What the hell?!"

Turning his gaze slowly, Negene met the eyes of each individual there- unafraid and burning with a dark anger. He could taste the fear coming off of them, the anger at his presence, and the worry that the pair caused.

It was delicious.

His laugh came out dark and low, warped from his current state. His already deep voice took on a crackling quality, making the sound twisted and darker. "What a lovely welcome for a new Amalgam. A Brawl that paused?" his eyes locked onto the two beasts taking hits towards one another previously. The one who had been winning- Norm -was staring open mouthed with horror. He recognized Negene. The Amalgam with the broken arm was already healing, webbed tendrils coating over the bone sticking out and creating new skin over it.

His head snapped back towards the bartender, god knows he forgot the name of the poor bastard. Slinking forward he sat on the stool beside her- serving as her shadow."You all know that They don't always speak of their intent. They sometimes release the rabbits to run,
just to see the havoc they cause. Any more questions?"

Vyllaea's hand had gone down to the sharp blade - prepared to spill her own blood to use as a weapon to cover for her mistake. She was confident that she could easily take down the people around her with the limited amount that she had. What would have scared others to the core was how willing and deathly serious she was as to use it so willingly. Vyllaea felt the blade press the underside of her arm, a slight amount of pressure more and she would break the skin.

However, a familiar darkness rose from her shadow, spreading out as an inky darkness to cover the grounds with ease, pushing aside the air as it was made from nothing. Of course, she felt no fear near him, just utter surprise to see that he was there. But why? Why did Negene follow her? Could he even DO that in her shadow?

She glanced at the others, noting their sudden shock and she half straightened her posture to show her own perfect amount of shock to the situation. Thank goodness you're here, you crazy bastard. She frowned slightly, not in misunderstanding or anger, but almost displeasure. Everyone here knew him. He came from here. That's right. But why the fear?

Vyllaea inclined her head to acknowledge his presence, trying not to ride off his powerful presence and air. Heh, instead of Ced using her power back at Utopia, she was half using this man's. Oh, how the tides do turn to bring about their own irony.

At his mention of the brawl, Norm seemed to suddenly realise that his opponent was regaining the upper hand. Norm suddenly turned back, striking with surprise against the prey, but this time, they fought back with an equal ferocity. Probably not wanting to be seen weak in the horned humans' eyes.

With that being back on track and most people losing themselves to their betting and cheering, the bartender suddenly felt very alone at the end of Negene's stare. They nervously shook their head. "N-no. Forgive the insolence of my questions... it's just the regulations and rules normally dictate-"

Vyllaea sent him a crippling glare, "Rules and regulations which, as we just found out,
don't always apply."
Her grin turned sadistic, matching the wild looks in the tavern, her eye burning with a hostility foreign to those who knew her. The emotional wreck was hidden.
This was her ground, being strong and firm without showing restraint or weakness. "Unless you want me to SHOW you what I can do. I'd be GLAD to." The bartender looked nervous for a few moments, before glancing back between Negene and... this female.

Her power... If it was anything... like his...

Quickly, he shook his head. "N-no, no." He mumbled and Vyllaea hissed angrily, the moisture in the air heating slightly to show her mock fury, somewhat unwillingly, "I'm glad we can come to the same agreement. Now. Drinks? Where the hell are they?" She leant back into her chair, watching as the bartender vanished hurridly. Vyllaea then glanced to Negene, questioningly. When she was certain that no one was listening to them anymore, she shook her head.

"I'm expecting some sort of explanation later." She moved her arm from the hidden blade, placing her elbow on the bench beside her to half look across to him. Vyllaea wouldn't directly stare, but more watch him for any hints or anything he might give to her. But her eyes weren't solely focused on him. A predatory glare to find any traces of them...

Maisen, you son of a bitch, where the fuck are you.

Negene kept his eyes out, not focusing on anyone for too long. He still expected Morganne to pop out of nowhere, phasing through the walls like a ghost. Of course, she was.

Turning his gaze to Vy, he couldn't help but shake his head. "You've got to be more careful. And just because you expect something, doesn't mean that it'll come to you." Pulling his glass to him, he downed the liquid easily.

Almost as if summoned, the Tavern owner poked her head in. Silver scars of Sigils dotted the woman's skin, looking like a veil more than the skin of a very pale woman. Her dress was tattered linen, not that it mattered much. Aside from her night-black hair, the most important feature were her eyes- or the lack thereof. Instead, her eyelids open and closed over orbless sockets, her head turning to nod at everyone. On her forehead was a glowing red Rune, the center of it darting around as she moved. Rather than go around people, she merely went through them."Ah, shit..."

"Think of the devil.."

Vyllaea sighed. Again with the warnings. She wanted to turn around, show him what sort of siren what she exactly was. Brutal and remorseless. A few drops of liquids and waters and she could do pretty much anything to unsuspecting foes. Vyllaea, even though she wanted to retort against him, decided that she'd keep her mouth shut. Here, he would have the advantage with his apparent rank that he held over everyone else.

But that made her think.

Just why was everyone so scared of him? Should she be equally as terrified?

"I'm expecting answers of one form or another. I'll get them. Even if that answer isn't something I can show to anyone else." Vyllaea half mumbled, her voice still low. It was the truth, she'd already accepted that she could die from this - but if it proves Ced's theory right, then, to her, it was worth it. She just wanted him to know that he had been right all this time and hadn't been someone so readily shoved aside.

At his curse, Vyllaea glanced up, her eyes catching the female in the tattered linen. Something about her put Vyllaea... Off. The scarlet rune seemingly embedded in her forehead shining brightly among the crowds. Again, the spar would falter for a few moments, before Norm's opponent slid in a cheeky blow and stuck at Norms side. A sickening crack was heard, followed by a huge roar of approval. Then Norms next blow landed again - right against the other one's shoulder, almost cleaving the bone free from the strands of muscle and flesh hanging from it.

As the owner came forward, she narrowed her eye slightly at Vyllaea. Vyllaea opened her mouth to ask a question in general, but... Something about the woman made her stagger, instead opting to use her hand to take the glass, ready to pass it to Negene due to the headache he was bound to receive from speaking with her.

Maybe Vyllaea would let him have a snack later for the troubles.

"What's all this about then, Negene?" She asked, her voice carrying an authority that chilled Vyllaea to the core. Suddenly Vyllaea became aware of every movement she was making. This ghost girl was...

Vyllaea dismissed the thought. She didn't even want to think of it - but Vy was certain that Negene would be able to sense her uncertainty and the sheer faith that she had in him.

Negene stood, his current form having slight echoes where he once was. Reaching an ethereal hand out he easily grasped Morganne's hand- something that only he could do due to his special.. Issue.

Her eyes widened, as they always did, and the sigil burned a warmer hue. Disgust filtered through Negene, but he had to maintain his innocent looking. Or. Lack thereof.

"Pre'ch Shayd. How long it's been since I last embraced your presence."

Morganne's eyes were still as empty as ever, but he could feel her senses dull. She had few emotions, but he still affected her. Not that she minded..."Forgive my absence.
I was sent to fetch and caretake over Malglings, and I have my own to speak for. I would appreciate if your tenders wouldn't hinder us, as we will only be here for a short time. I must take her to the Center, We're supposed to meet the other half of our party before then."

The next sentence slipped his lips before he could stop himself.

"Before we go, though.. I'm very, very hungry."

The bar went silent again, people going hushed. Mentally, he slapped himself for uttering the same phrase that got him into so much trouble with Morganne those years before. Almost expecting her to toss them out, he held his breath. Either show weakness, or lose the goal now.

The sigil turned cold for a moment, before burning a bright yellow. "Of course.
Their most promising Hunter would be hungry, especially after a long trek. Come, We will find you a suitable dine."

The skeletal ghost snapped her fingers, the crowd parting for a young woman cloaked in red. Negene's stomach dropped. Elaaine.

"Don't worry sweetling. She's still here, and she still waits for you. Just remember, you have to be much gentler than last time. You almost broke her!"

Negene's stomach dropped, but he refused to look over to Vy. Rather, he stepped towards the cloaked woman, letting her guide him to the corner of the tavern where no one went still. His first home. His first Den.

He knew the woman would never show her face again. He made sure he couldn't, last time they were together. Looking back once to Vy, he tried to give off a vibe of confidence- she needed information? Morganne could get it for her.

That dark feeling stirred in his stomach, though. Before they had even reached the corner, he felt his hands slipping under the hem to grasp at a soft, young hand. She was only a teenager, but the welling of emotions hadn't changed. So much anger, the hurt, the feeling of no acceptance. It was all there.

It was all His.

Vyllaea was expecting the harsh tone against her, the cold words to rip through her soul. But Negene's wise and tactful words pushed the punishment back - or that was what she thought. But it seemed that the words had worked, but his words chilled her. Hunger. He was hungry. Even though he had almost feed just hours earlier from their exchange... How could he be hungry again!

Her heart filled with terror, frightened by the very thought that he was hungry already. But even worse - she looked to where everyone else was looking. By the statue of the the girl, she... was young. Please don't... Negene stood, Vyllaea wanted to turn and grab his arm - force him to stop, feed on what she felt. Not touch the girl. Not let either of them get close to death again, or being broken, whatever that was. She was a GUARDIAN! She took an oath to protect them! Not watch as they ate one another and... NO!

But if she grabbed him and restrained him, then their cover would be blown. They would be sprung instantly and Negene was the only reason she wasn't spilling their blood.

Vyllaea didn't look at him. She couldn't. It took every ounce of willpower not to look at him, and just as much concentration to not break her facade.

However, when he walked past, he seemed confident.

Probably confident in his fucking food.

Vyllaea looked back to the bench, shaking her head ever so slowly. She was a fucking idiot, she should have at least sent for Cedric. At least tell him just where she was, what they had to do... But no. She had to prove this for him. Stupid fucking idiot. Her hand trailed over the benchtop, a sigh of annoyance coming from her as she rose the glass to drink from it, quite accepting of the fact that the emotion eater wouldn't need his drink.

She was... Almost disappointed in him... but it didn't matter. He was hungry. So she had to cope with it and let him eat.

Vyllaea looked up to the keeper, noticing that she was actually looking down to her for once. "So why are you here?" She asked, her hollow voice shaking Vyllaea to the utter core. With a small shrug, Vyllaea clasped the shredded ribbon of Negene's confidence. "I'm actually here looking for a guardian, if I'm honest." Vyllaea said easily, her harsh tone from earlier when she was scolding vanished.

The owner slowly nodded, before 'looking' forward and almost into Vyllaea's core. It was incredibly unsettling, but she didn't let it influence her too much. They seemed... Interested in what she was saying. "Which one are you after?" She inquired, her ghosting form phasing through someone to draw a bit closer, somewhat giving them a bit of privacy.

Well. To hell with it. Vyllaea turned to face the ghost, her arm resting across her lap with her wrist against the blade to reassure herself, nothing more, nothing less.

"I'm looking for Maisen."

"Elaaine.. Could you tell me if They took care of you?"

Negene's voice was almost human, weak. Emotional. The only time he could feel like this was when he was feeding, as he was now. Gods.."I was taken care of, Neggy. Don't worry."

He was already feeling that way before he gently let go of Elaaine's hand, pulling away. Surprise flitted over her aura before understanding. As quickly as she came, she went.

Turning back to Vy, he quickly realized what had happened- if only by one name.

"Maisen?... He should be back at the Lab.. After the Pre'ch Levatiah succeeded, he was told to look for those that had made his mission difficult."

Understanding and alarm went through Negene's head, just as he reformed in front of Morganne.
"But how would you know his Guardian name?"

Before he could do anything, he was immediately put into a feeling of misunderstanding. He couldn't stop himself. Maisen was hunting her? Why was she doing this if she claimed... Bu that would mean that the Amalgam would be hunting her down. If she stopped them from getting the shard, then that would also mean that she was one of the true Guardians, none of the Implants from Them.

She was in way, way over her head.

Vyllaea kept her face expressionless, her ears avoiding the sounds which Negene would make, the words which he spoke. Ergh, it was so wrong... To feed off such a young girls emotions-

She paid attention to the owner, listening to what they said. Vyllaea allowed a slight smile to tug on her lips. "Good, I hope that they get what they deserve for disrupting their mission..."

Cedric. He wouldn't know.

Her eyes gleamed, the sound of another crunching bone from the spar sounded. Another roar of approval from the people around them. Vyllaea inclined her head towards the shadow that reformed behind her, muttering an internal apology, "That's how I know." Well, she fucking hoped that it was the truth and that he had known of Maisen. If he hadn't...

Then she was utterly screwed.

Vyllaea raised the glass in her hand, taking a mouthful of the vile liquid. It wasn't the best move she had had as this was... much stronger than she anticipated. However, she kept a straight face, placing the glass down on the bench. Out of respect, she looked back to Negene, inclining her head to him to acknowledge his return. It may have been a little late, and she probably would be punished for that... But her mind was elsewhere.

If Maisen was after those who had made the mission difficult, then Cedric was in danger. And seeming she vanished without telling him a thing, he was most likely either searching for her, or at his home sulking. But Cedric never seemed to be the type of person to sulk. So he'd be looking for her, where ever he could find a lead. And the only clues that he would ever find just happened to be...

Right in the lion's den.

"I've eaten my fill, Morganne. Take Elaaine back home." Negene's heart was pounding, understanding finally hammering through his veins in a fresh wave of unfamiliar emotions.
Vy was in danger, severe and undeniable danger.

"Whenever you two are ready, we really must hurry to get to where we need to-"

At that moment, the tavern doors opened yet again. The arid air from outside swept in, but held no silence over the crowd. Norm cast another blow, breaking his opponents left upper ribs, columns two and four. The pain he felt then would be nothing compared to the fear that now thrummed through him. Immediately he tensed, the lingering shadows around him binding tighter to his physical form.

A being in silver armor, almost like a living suit strode in, reading a book in a language unknown to Negene. The amount of energy that came off of him was astounding. The true fear came from the large Rune created by the Gearings on his suit.

Guardian.

Not just any, either. The one that was created at his side. 004. The Iron Mason.

He had Chosen to be called Maisen.

Maisen Steai.

Negene seemed to be worried - Vyllaea could almost, almost feel it from him. However, she reasoned that it wasn't his own fear, rather it was her own that she declared was Negene's to mask her own dread. However, she allowed herself to nod to him, about to respond when the door opened.

Oh, come on! Now what!

Her emerald eyes cast themselves a quick glance over Negene's shoulder, just like a good dozen people in the room had done to see the new guest. Another feeling settled on the room, a crippling fear, worse than what happened when Negene declared his hunger. Vyllaea could physically sense his power, and that very thing made her curious. It almost was familiar - but at the same time, it wasn't. It was like trying to compare lamb to chicken, both were meats, but that's the only thing they shared. He just seemed to carry something about him...

Wait. His stance. Shit.

The silver suit walked forward, his eyes scanning through pages and pages of a book. No. That couldn't be him, that couldn't BE Maisen! He didn't have anywhere near the power that this guy had!

Illusionist.

Cedric's word rang in her mind and, instantly, she had no doubt that this was the same person who they thought that they lost. The same one she filed a report against. The same person who she had been with several times on a mission. The same one... Wait... If she could recognise him, could he do the same back to her?

Her mouth felt dry, her stomach flipping uneasily as her eyes settled on Negene. Vyllaea did her best to hide it, her expression and eyes completely unchanged, but she knew he could sense her surprise, her shock. Her dread. Her clothing, sure, they were different, the tattered white shirt tucked underneath the belt of her pants, a loose brown vest which was more like rags due to being caught so often in her searches. So at least her typical clothing items were completely different. But the last time Maisen saw her, she had both eyes. Her face was scared - hopefully, she would have that as her advantage.

She had her answer, however, she'd be damned if she could even try to bring this man in. Vyllaea didn't stand a chance in hell. Then she realised she couldn't talk to tell Negene that her search was over - or tell him anything at all! Even though her voice ranged from gentle to harsh, her words always firm and direct, the tone and the words she spoke, Maisen would know it. He would know it all. She couldn't hide it or feint a false voice either. Too many people had already heard her and alert him to her treachery.

Vyllaea's nerves skyrocketed and she could feel the blade digging a little more into her palm. There were no nearby waters - meaning she'd be utterly defenceless if Maisen saw and recognised her... and acted. Well, that wasn't true. Drinks, the air... Her own blood. They would be her weapons if she needed it.

But, right now, she just needed to leave in one piece.

Maisen finished his page off, giving a short nod of satisfaction before allowing the book to delicately shut in his hand. His gaze glanced to Negene, and to the rather fresh recruit near him, seated slightly more forward in her seat. Casually, he tucked the book under his arm. "It's been a while since you showed your face, Negene." He seemed a little surprised, but his stance spoke utter words of confidence and no amount of the surprise that sounded in his voice. Vyllaea could feel his eyes watching the back of her head.

"I was worried you were becoming far too comfortable over there... Heh, I'm glad to see I was wrong."

A snarl ripped through Negene, the shadows bubbling into a roil. His body ached with the need to reach in there and rip this bastard into shreds, to feel him lose his mind as he played with emotions, warped them and fed fear into-

No. I have to be calm. If we are to get out alive, Maisen has to remember me as a loose canon,
one not aimed at him. I'm not.. I'm not like him.

Clenching his fist, he shook his head. "Speak for yourself. As soon as those Runes were carved into your chest, I had marked you for one of Light's puppets. Glad to see you're still a dog of Their leash, though. Not going to lie though, the Ore armor suits you very well." He liked puns, right? Right?? Shit.

Shrugging off his fear, the next words slipped through is mouth like oil, his eyes glowing bright enough to reflect of Maisen like a lantern off of mirrors.

"We both know the Shayd would've been sent for you if you turned. At least you're kind enough to bring us little gifts every now and then. May even give you a couple extra days to feel free if you were to turn. By the way- your sister."

Licking his lips, Negene tilted his head- looking down on the suit by a few inches.

"Her worry over her brother is delicious. I know why They gave her to me now. Just to make sure that you weren't too over your leash. Did you know that when she cries, her body does this..."
An slow intake, almost a hiss of breath came from Negene then. "This little arch. Almost as if she were reaching for something, or whispering in someone's ear."

Leaning forward again, he offered a Cheshire grin- the teeth stark against the shadowing on purpose.

"Delectable."

Vyllaea shivered inwardly at the tone of Maisen's voice, a hollowish shell compared the more normal sound which she was used to. She ignored the feeling, or at least, she did her best to. Thankfully, Negene answered rather easily, his tone actually seemingly nice for once. Oh that made a nice change compared to what Vyllaea was use to from earlier. Maisen actually gave a half laugh at the compliment, but his eyes were glued to Vyllaea. The way she sat, the way she held herself, Maisen's hollow eyes narrowed slightly. She was almost familiar to him...

Nope, that was just wishful thinking for Vyllaea wth the whole 'nice Negene' business as his next words made Vyllaea feel queasy, the sheer descriptions feeling like she was being twisted in her soul. It was incredibly unsettling.

Maisen visibly stiffened, his energy rising as the emerald eyes shone brightly against his armour. His fist slowly clenched, "Likewise to you." He said sternly, but his sister... How dare that fucking floppy piece of shit speak of her like that! Maisen's own mistake lead to her sufferings - to this fish sapping her emotions.

His anger radiated from him, the nearby benches seemingly warping and twisting to show his displeasure. However, his words were much the same, carefully crafted to avoid any sort of suspicion. "I'll be sure to pass on the to Them that you're still... Fine." Maisen said easily, before sighing. Opening his hand, he realised that he seemingly bent the book out of his frustration. Typical for this fish face to do that to his books! He returned his attention to that girl.

The world warped back to normal and Maisen looked to her. "Who's this latest piece of meat you picked up?"

The comment stung Vyllaea's pride, but she didn't answer. She was too nervous to.

"Her name's Eira. I found her where I was before, and after a bit of.."

His mind blanched.

The darkness rushed in to fill in those blanks.

"Persuasion, she agreed to come here. Glad to know that you're still as soft as ever, Maisen. Morganne still likes to play dress up with her doll. I'd suggest you speak to your sister though.
I was hungry when I finally got back." His head half looked at Vy, a finger brushing against the bare skin of her jaw. "I had to eat, if only to make sure my pet was't too drained to meet Them again."

Taking his hand back, Negene prayed that the stray Siren wouldn't open her big trap to ruin the cover he was carefully weaving for them. If he had to take on Maisen here and now, Morganne was guaranteed to go against him. And even if he got to Elaaine in time for a hostage situation, Morg would just sweep Vy away with her.. Runes.

"Who's to say that I won't get hungry again soon. Our priorities don't match. And it's time for my comrade and I to go... Unless you care to join me for dinner?"

Hopefully Maisen would remember the.. The night that Negene lost control of himself. It was the main reason that Negene wound up the first weapon, over Maisen. That, and he was stronger. But he was weak right now, had only fed on Elaaine for moments, and only had a few spare minutes with Vy to feed two years of near starvation. He was at an all time low, and if he couldn't back his threats they were both done for.

Maisen's tense body refused to relax, the mere sight of this emotion eater coiling his stomach. He hated him with a passion and, if They had allowed it, he would wipe the ground with his stupidly smug expressions. However he had noted that Negene skillfully tried to cross him, his words almost leaping back to his sister. Maisen's eyes narrowed dangerously, his sapphire eyes digging into Negene's emerald spheres. "I'll take that into consideration." He spoke simply, but the tone was one that chilled Vyllaea to the core. He was incredibly suspicious.

However, when Negene brushed his fingers against the fresh recruits jaw, he could see the slight reaction to his touch. Even if it was slight, it was still a reaction that Maisen expected from any of this kids victims.

After he had spoken, Maisen, unconvinced, slowly inclined his head. He would release them,
but keep an eye on them. Negene was skilled with his words, but Maisen... Wasn't convinced.
"Be on your way then, fiend." He looked up to Morganne, shaking his head to her with an annoyance dancing across his frame. Slowly, he walked over to his beloved and damaged sister, the cloaks hiding her frame. Silent words were exchanged as he wrapped his arms around her for a brief hug.

Damn that fish face, he always made her so... Uncertain after a darn feed, and her anger would consume her time and time again. When the two had left, he would talk to Morganne and find out just what the hell was with her.

She seemed so familiar...

Vyllaea was still attempting to recover from the contact of Negene as Maisen walked away. Suddenly, she felt very unsafe as she realized that Negene's victim was his damn sister. However, her nerves and dread silenced her and, if Negene left, she would follow him silently - until they were a good distance away.

More than ever, she wanted to run back and grab Cedric - she was filled with dread, the love still dancing on the birdman's face, but... other than that, she wasn't in the mood to try and take down Maisen anymore. He's so strong... Just what on earth have they been doing on this plane... Is Negene like that as well, but I just can't sense it because of the few feeds that he has had? Vyllaea was lost in her thoughts, her body wanting to shake and display the uncertainty she felt. But that... Was something she couldn't allow.

Eyes could be watching. And she didn't trust Maisen let them go for free. That wasn't in his nature.

The shadows around Negene parted, returning to the jacket and two shirts that he preferred. This time, his pants were a lighter color, ripped in certain places for comfort. His mind wandered as he recalled the effect that Maisen had on his mind, irritated that he had gotten so weak as to see the bastards illusions.

Damn it.

He knew that they'd be followed. Elaaine would provide a gentle enough distraction, he had a couple leagues with her that she owed him more than a favor or two. His eyes searched, and he absently chewed on a knuckle. How would someone who works solely from the mind go about getting revenge on someone that almost ripped apart his younger sibling?

A sick feeling started in his stomach. Somehow, Vy knew Maisen. Even though Negene knew that Maisen couldn't actually hunt them without Their say so, passive aggressive acts of violence weren't beyond the Pawn.

Gritting his teeth, he didn't realize he had drawn blood until the coppery taste flooded his mouth.
His eyes immediately locked on the golden ichor that dripped from him. It'd been so long since he'd seen it...

His gaze was drawn to Vy then. Feelings of uncertainty, fear, dread. All of them swirled in a tumultuous cloud around her. It'd been so long since he had been around someone with such emotions.. Only Elaaine, and those that he... He had wiped.

They were almost to the border, near the Rift that had been a lure for the Merfolk and Travelers alike. Holding his hand out, he watched as the flash of light that signaled his body healing evaporated his blood, leaving a small scar on his knuckle- a fresh silver among several other darker lines and chips. He thought he had kicked the habit of chewing his knuckles already..

"Are you alright?"

Vyllaea followed Negene, her face expressionless and her arms partially crossed over her chest. Her heart hammered, her palms were sweaty, but her forehead and pulse were rapid, her mind racing. Shit. What the hell had she caught herself up in? It was a mess, something bigger than she could chew - well, almost. Kinda. If she had that darn lightning master with her, she was almost certain that it'd be fine. Maybe.

Vyllaea felt her nails dig into her arm, the nail biting into it firmly. How could Maisen even have the ability to hide such power - even from her? Even if he was this illusionist, which she was now certain he was, it would have required expertise to be able to handle that raw power.

If he was such a man, then there was no way in hell she could take him in. But at least she found him... Right? That was a good thing? Ced was right? He isn't dead!

Negene's voice startled her, causing her to jump and her nails clench slightly harder than she anticipated. With a slight hiss of annoyance, she crossed her arms in reverse so that that wouldn't happen again.

"I'm fine." Liar. Vyllaea's voice was weak, betraying her declaration. It shook with her fear. Dammit. Her voice dropped low, "I wasn't expecting... that."

She sighed. Fucking hell, this shit was so stupid! How could she let someone like THAT into the guardianship! Vyllaea hesitated. If he was in there... How... How many others had slipped through? Her jaw clenched tighter, the dense bones almost cracking from the pressure.

"I warned you. I tried to take you the safe way... Why are you after him, anyway?"
He had already checked the shadows, they were alone. As alone as they could get, at least. "It'd been years since I last saw him. They.. They favor him, but no where near as much as They favor me. It's my fault he's like this, but.." A bitter look pursed his lips into a slight frown. "He's changed.
Used to, I could take him with ease. They made Elaaine for me, even. Mainly as punishment for failing my Guardianship. My Traveler Runes were easily replaced over the graphs, but. They weren't happy with him for a while there. What's happened that he's now the pawn over a Levatiah?... No,
That was a falsity. Hmm.."

He lost himself to his thoughts, light dancing across his skin as he went through the barrier that separated the Realm from the portal. He remembered the day he gave Them the sigil to make it...
But it wasn't his fault that he was made for these purposes. Sure, They were older and wanted to do it, but having a living conductor to make it easier..

Shaking his head he turned to Vy.

"You need to run. Don't come back unless you have friends with you. Trust me."

Vyllaea was silent, her arms held firmly against her chest. A sad smile pulled on her face, "Because, due to a traveller, there was a request from them that had to be recorded. And the... the council sent a guardian and three travellers - and... we were to take down what had killed Maisen." She faltered, a sad smile on her face, "Yea, that was the first time that a traveller saved my ass. But hey - you two might get along." You can actually touch him without causing him incredible pain - that's always a plus.

Vyllaea listened to his thoughts, allowing him to just have a bit of time to think. Vyllaea appreciated the time, just to stand there and think for a few moments. However, his comment surprised her. A genuine smile came on her face.

"Someone who's saved my hide several times in a day... I already am here with at least one friend."

She hesitated for a few moments, then released a semi-heavy sigh before facing him. "Look, I know you don't really like it here. So why don't you come with me - I can take you through to somewhere and someone I trust. They'll keep an eye on you, and hell, I might need your help to keep them calm so they don't blow up on me when I get back... He's rather... Shocking when he gets mad." A playful spark danced through her eyes, goodness she'd missed those darn puns. However, she ensured that her voice was quiet, so only he would be able to hear.

She didn't trust that Maisen wouldn't try and track them down. He... Was known for his thoroughness.

Surprise from Negene caused the barrier to burst into a row of colorful sparks. Her emotions... Gods, whoever had her heart had really marked her. It was blatant in her aura, like a storm cloud sheltering an island from invading Sailors.

Shaking his head, he lost himself in more thoughts- this time aloud.

"They might hunt for me. They know I'm here, and if your lover boy doesn't kill me I'm more than sure that They will track me down to do it Themselves... Or they'll muzzle me again." His face went pale, the marks under his eyes flickering a golden hue at the mere mention of the word.

Being unable to eat was... terrifying. the one time it had happened, he almost wasted away. And when he was finally released.. Elaaine.....

Swallowing his memories, he cleared his throat.

"If you'll find use for me, I think a home with the potential of physical nourishment might be better than... Living without it."

The thought still terrified him.

Vyllaea raised an eyebrow, "Loverboy? That's a bit rude. Look, if they hunt for you, I'll lay down a hidden path for them. I'm so decent at doing that that I managed to trick Maisen. Once. He got me back for that. Big time... But that's another story. Anyway, we can help. I'm one of the most respected Guardians - surely I can find extras willing to protect an innocent civilian." She gave a small wink to that, "Besides," fucking stop smiling Vyllaea, "I'd like to see anyone best my 'loverboy'. Only -..." Anger rose in her throat again, the joy that brewed in her heart suddenly doused like a fire. The darn fury of that bitches mark on her Ced burned in her mind.

That. Fucking. CURSE.

"Sorry." Vyllaea mumbled, raising her hand to rest it against her head. Far out she needed to chill down about that. Or not. She wouldn't mind either way.

Then a sudden thought was thrust upon her, his food! She hummed a little, before smirking. "If you do, and you promise NOT to get carried away, if you're... hungry, well, you saved my hide so often that I should be able to let you have at least SOMETHING every now and then. Just. Don't you fucking dare take away all my emotion. You'll have a very VERY mad thunderbird trying to murder your ass." Her eyes didn't gleam with the amusement that she tried to wind into her voice - the previous thoughts of that bitch still weighing heavily on her mind...

She had to figure out a way to stop that from hurting him. Before he could kill himself from that curse. First Maisen isn't dead. He's a super powerful illusionist. AND the curse is hanging around Ced still. AND SHE PICKED UP AN EMOTION EATER. WHO EVERYONE IS TERRIFIED OF. What the hell could possibly go wrong next!

Vyllaea shook her head, "He's already had to deal with... me not being ready to show any emotion due to my father. I'd prefer you didn't take away what he broke free."

She smiled up at him again. "As for a use... Well, we can figure that out later. But I'm sure we can find something - it's not too hard to do."

A dark chuckle went through him. Memories long past running through his mind.

"Don't worry. I can handle myself." The amount of emotion she was giving off was too alluring to ignore. The anger... It would be enough to move mountains, if she let it. But the amount of feeling for the man she spoke of.. "Not afraid of birds, either. Though, if he's anything like you, I'm sure he'll be delicious as well."

A purr broke out from him, his hand reaching out to gently brush a strand back behind her ear. Her face was puckered in one of thought, that smile breaking out with true emotions. Almost like a child being introduced to something new and exciting. They welled up and over her walls, almost as if she were feeling them for the first time.

It was a refreshing change of pace. Even if she WAS tiny.

"I'm a good cook. I'm also a good fisherman. If anything else, I can serve as a Gearmaker again."

A frown came from him at this, his hands clenching. The Gears.. Something was missing in his memory on that subject. What was so important about them?..

"If you tell me where we're going, I can open this portal to that Realm. Can't guarantee we'll land exactly where you want to go, but." He shrugged. "I can make the sigil for that realm."

She blinked, not realising that he had brushed the strand aside. Vyllaea bit her lip lightly, before raising an eyebrow. "Alright, if you say so..." Her voice was teasing, before she lost herself in her thoughts again. Where on earth should she take him? The underwater realm only had one portal back - but if they landed in the Eye and she looked like this...

"We're going to the... Place Utopia is on. Just... Try not to go into the Center. If you do - you can only pray that others don't try and murder you." Vyllaea shrugged, before raising her hand to tug the bandage back down. Once more, the damaged eye would be hidden behind a veil of fabric. "He's going to kill me for not looking after that properly..."

She crossed her arms. Surely there was something else that she needed to do, but she only would as they stepped through the portal to head through to the Realm. Any earlier and others could be able to see her snow white hair.

Mind you, it was borderline albinism with her hair and her skin. That always confused her, she could burn so easily, everything screamed that she shouldn't have the eyes that she did. But, through her seeming albinism, she was given the gift of her pale eyes... Vyllaea shoved the thought aside, "Just make sure that you don't make the wrong sigil..."

"I'm hurt that you think someone as perfect as me could make such a mistake."
He joked, before closing his eyes. Within seconds, the sigil popped into his mind, eyes flashing open with the white of his sclera taking over his eyes entirely. Hands flashing out, the golden ichor from earlier came out of his hands easily, thinning enough to sit in a haze wherever he moved his hands.
Within a few minutes, the complex sigil glowed a bright amber, the mist solidifying into a golden sign. If one were to touch it, they'd feel the cold metal of gold under their hands.

Slowly, the Sigil sunk into the barrier, multiple hues of fold and red rippling accross the portal. Almost as if the reality in front of them had been ripped in half, a slit spread before them. Green grass gave way to the silt of a riverbed, pink salmon dancing as they leaped over rocks and into the deeper waters. Clawing his hands, he spread the portal easily, before turning back to Vy.

"I'll need you to go through first, so that I can close this behind us." His eyes stared almost emptily at her, expecting her to be quick about it. This much energy was going to cost him, and the longer he held it open the harder it would be to fight off instincts. Sweat beaded at his brow- it had been literal years since the last time he had done this.

Vyllaea ALMOST snorted at the comment, instead opting to roll her eyes. Fricken perfectionists - now she had to live with two of them.

While Negene was focused on creating the sigil, she glanced around to make sure that there were no more prying eyes. Satisfied that she couldn't see anyone, her hand rose to take away the band that covered her hair. The pale strands flowed away from their prison - frazzled and knotted from being forced to hide. As well as the lack of brushing her hair as she didn't exactly have much time to really do that anyway.

She glanced back up to him, doing a double take as his normally green eyes shone white, the sigil already formed as the man clawed the portal open. Her heart leapt, seeing the shore. No. Surely not?

Could that really...? At his comment, she nodded, but she hesitated just slightly. "You better come through after me..." A shaft of nerves danced through her spine at the words. She hated the idea of leaving others behind - it went against her nature. With a shake of her head, she leapt through the portal, her feet landing in the soft sand. Her toes curled against it, having gone bare-footed thanks to her siren form not being able to use those darn shoes. A smile light up her face.

It was so darn GOOD to be home...

She turned back to the portal, watching it in a hidden nervousness. He better not just shut it...

With a snarl, Negene clawed his way through the portal- fighting against the natural forces attempting to shut it as he came through. It felt like he were drowning for a moment,
before he finally set foot on a sandy shore. Turning behind him, he grasped at the two edges, smashing them together until the seam sewed itself shut.

Panting, he collapsed- feeling the bubbling feeling that came after using Light. Struggling up, he quickly made it into the water before his form gave away, the shadows drifting off- leaving his skin bare against the world, legs sewing together into frills and fins. Scales covered his lower half, just as he made it into the water.

Turning face up, he gasped- the water cooling his insides. Damn it.

"Sorry fish bait.." his eyes locked onto the frazzled woman before him. "It's been ages since I had such a work out..."

It took longer for Negene to go through and greet her on the other side, taking painfully long. In reality, it was only a few extra moments. Something seemed wrong as he finally stepped through, turning to shut the portal. Vyllaea felt her heart leap in her throat, her stomach flipping as he suddenly collapsed.

But before she could even make it to him, Negene went straight for the water. Vyllaea made her way over, seeing the inky darkness spreading away from him. Her heart hammered in her chest and the moment she went to take a step forward, something... Strange happened. She froze, partially dumbfounded as she saw the legs knit together, replaced by elegant frilled legs, the scales shining in the light.

Vyllaea added another mark to the things that would go wrong in her long list.

She stared at him, her mouth partially open in surprise, dumbfounded. "Well..." Vyllaea broke her gaze away. "I wasn't expecting... umm... That." She cleared her throat, "Are you alright?" She asked, then rose her gaze, looking through to her surroundings, trying to figure out just where they were.

The pink salmon were only found in a few parts of this Realm, three places in total. Near where Cedric made his home, where he literally caught her, then somewhere off to the north-west. Judging by the sands and the particular bend in the river... She nodded.

"When... you decide to get up..." Vyllaea couldn't finish her sentence, every word bubbling with excitement and her pitch rising at every letter. The nervousness, the dread, the anger, they all melted away, breaking away under the force of her joy. They were home.

Negene could feel his eyes returning to their usual green. His breath caught up with him, just as the shadows went over his body again- once more returning to his humanoid shape.
It would seem that he was much, much weaker than he remembered.

"Sorry.. I just... I got a little ahead of myself."

Gathering shadows beneath him, he stood atop them- walking over them back onto land. His cheeks flushed red, and he turned away from Vy.

"You didn't see that."

His eyes looked over the shore, taking in their surroundings. They weren't near the Center, but three or so miles out. Dangerous proximity. Around them, the woods were dense enough to hide their presence from anyone not nearby, but a path cut through them. It was well trodden, the dirt leading up to a cabin. Smoke came from the chimney, signalling someone was home. A cloud of dark emotions hung over it, and Negene felt his stomach boil with hunger. Turning his blackening eyes away, he took a few deep breaths. The woman was feeling more than just Joy, she was feeling excitement and hope. Something had her heart singing, and he didn't know whether that was good or bad for him.

"Lead.. The way..."
