PostSubject: Unexpected (Private)   Tue May 16 2017, 05:52

It had been weeks since she had been stolen, right from under their noses. Nothing had the guts to approach this home. Aside from one rather stubborn man, one that was on a rather important request.

Light came through the trees, shining against the bright leaf coverage over the trees. Brown shoes crunched the dying leafs under his feet. Humming, the man continued down the path. A simple shirt, tie blown back over his shoulder, he huffed a little at the cold chilling his fingers. His pants were a rather odd of appearance, with the chain hanging loosely swinging from his pocket. Attached to this was something rather interesting that he kept a secret. Or that’s what he wanted them to think at least. Hidden on his shoulder was a mark, giving him away as one of the many Travellers.

Roshan almost wanted to bolt across the ground – he had been travelling for weeks to get to this place. Riding the light took energy from him, and he wasn’t really able to keep it up for more than a few moments at a time... And it was absolutely exhausting for him. Roshan was requested to deliver a message, that’s just what he was going to do. The man wore fingerless gloves, hiding the burn scars across his palms. They were semi self-inflicted, the power he controlled almost burned or was simply too strong for his natural skin to keep it under control. The gloves were laced with a restrictive magic to keep them at bay when he decided to use it.

But he shrugged to himself, continuing to walk up the path. It was so darn... Beautiful and daunting at the same time was the sight ahead of him. The man glanced down at the envelope, the thrice folded note residing inside it, the name written quite clearly in the centre of this package;

Cedric Vael.

Clearing his throat a little and adjusting his tie to run down his front again, he closed the rest of the distance and walked up to the door. “Hello! Is there anyone home?” He called out, a pleasant smile on his face, completely and utterly unaware of the tension that could be behind the door. As far as he was concerned, he was just hired to deliver a message and escort them back – buuut that was only a condition if they accepted.

Nervously, he fidgeted with the hem of his open jacket, the note transferred to his other hand and he looked up at the door. He had made sure no one had seen him coming, just in case.

Cedric stared down at the picture in his hands, the frame holding the first and only photograph the he and Vyllaea had taken. They were standing side by side, the runes holding the still in place. They were laughing together, his eye sparking with amusement as she blushed from slight embarrassment. It was when they had gone fishing, and after she caught her fill and came on land, one of the salmon had gone down her shirt. The panic she went through to get it out was met with an embarrassing moment after, but... It was one of the Paradigm's favorite memories.

It had been two weeks and three days. Seventeen days. Four hundred eight hours. Twenty four thousand four hundred eighty minutes, and fifteen seconds. One million four hundred sixty-eight thousand eight hundred sixteen seconds. All of it was agony. He had her, and she was in his arms for less than an hour. His eyes closed again, head hanging. He had cried his tears. He had searched the realms. The tattoos protecting his body from the torment that Traveling could put on his physical health were burning, spent for the day.

Behind him, a form stirred. A body of armor latched into the wall with chains, sigils burning a bright gold around him where they were carved and painted into the wooden wall of the cabin. The one over his head burned the brightest, providing the room with a warm golden light. Maisen was trying to use his power, and Negene's runes were making it to where the energy would be channeled into the marks to waste the effort. Shaking his head, Cedric stood up.

"You keep trying, even if you know it's useless. Gods... What an idiot. Negene was right." The paradigm looked at the window, shaking his head again. The Amalgam, now that Cedric knew that was what he was, had left to gather food for them again.

He was removed from his reverie as a voice came from the other side of his front door- one he had never heard before. His face contorted into a snarl. If the council had sent yet another fucking Traveler to reign him towards his duties, they were out of luck. He had purposefully taken his Leave of Absence in time for bereavement, at least until he found her again. This, of course, was entirely legal. He found himself padding towards the door, the air around him thick with energy from his dark mood. He opened the oaken door, glaring at the boy behind it.

Roshan was cautioned against the owners temper, that they were like a storm waiting to unleash hell on someone. But no amount of coaching or preparation could prepare him for the fury that he felt as a form moved through the house. He heard footsteps, growing closer and closer. He took a step back - just in time for the door to fly open.

His glare almost killed Roshan where he stood. The anger. Loneliness. Greif. It was all written on his face. The intensity made him hesitate for a few moments before his training kicked in once more. "Cedric, it's a pleasure." Roshan quickly bowed, before straightening his posture. "My names' Roshan, Sir, and my... I've been hired to give this to you- don't be afraid. It's just a note."

Instantly, Roshan produced the envelope. Despite the distance it had travelled, it was still in perfect condition. He took great proud in his work, and Roshan was rather finicky for ensuring that everything stayed the way he received them until delivery was complete. "Oh, and a verbal message as well. They wish for you to read it- but not judge as soon as you lay eyes upon this."

Roshan would pass the note to him, before being a little hesitant. They didn't tell him what to do after he passed it on. "But before I leave, I do need to know the answer to what this note will provide. If you choose to... well, yes. Shutting up." GOSH Roshan, calm down.

With the first line read, clouds began to gather.

The second paragraph caused thunder to shake the house, windows rattling. He wanted Cedric to come to the fucking trap laid before him?

The third paragraph had him scowling, energy beginning to crackle, and page starting to smoke where he held it. Pathetic. Is that what her father thought of his fucking daughter? His eyes sparked, understanding what the boy in front of him was sent to do.

Lightning flashed behind Roshan, striking the ground and setting the dry grass ablaze. The downpour that followed immediately after put the fire quickly out, but not Cedric's anger. The page was now burning in his hand, energy arcing from his fingers to his body. Hair beginning to rise on end, muscles trembling his eye rose to meet Roshan's. The boy wasn't anything unfamilar to him. It would seem that the poor bastard had Negene's sense of style, the jacket would be enough to protect him from the torrential waters coming from the heavens.

"You dare come to my home... Under the name of that bastard?..."

His coat began to rise from the build up of electricity, his body taking a step forward before he could stop himself. He heard the creaking of Maisen's armor moving, watching them. The light from behind him grew brighter as more sigils flared to life.

Negene strode back to the cabin where he stayed, his arm holding a bag full of fresh salmon from the river. Fish were easy to catch with a net. Shaking his head, he still couldn't believe the metabolism that this guy had. He went through twenty fish in a day, easily. And that's when he wasn't hungry. Scowling, he still couldn't believe that Vy had gotten out from between his fingers, his one promised source of guaranteed food. Now he had to ask Cedric if he wanted assuagement. Serving as a medicine for the ache the poor bastard had.. It was like being a medicinal salve.

Shaking his head, he paused. Clouds had gathered on a sunny day. They were thick, boiling thunderheads. He began to hurry, traversing the path with more speed than he had cared to do before. Lightning snapped, the energy affecting the air. He looked towards the cabin, seeing the rage that almost always came from the Paradigm was brighter than it had been in weeks. He began to sprint, only to slow down when the torrent came down.

Now, though, he was out of the trees. There was a stranger in front of Cedric, and damn him for that good looking j-... There was something burning in Cedric's hands, murder in his eyes.

God damn it.

Roshan held back from lashing out at the burning of the note, but he knew that Cedric could react like that and he shoved his hands in the pockets of his pants. Paper crumpled a little, a backup note written that he slightly damaged, but Roshan was more worried with the anger that oozed from this mans form. He flinched at the accusation, before sighing. "The reason I'm here under that name was because he wanted to tell you... And he couldn't find anyone game enough to come up to your house."

Roshan shook his head, sighing. The lightning didn't seem to scare him so much, the light a good being a friend to him. In a way, at least...

After gathering his thoughts, Roshan spoke again. "I was given a choice, to come and give you this so you KNEW what she was. He wanted to tell her too, so that she knew to stay away from... Whatever the hell the plane is... Necrotica... or something I do believe he said. But apparently things... seem tense, and I'm guessing she's missing. Isn't she?" Roshan's hand slowly began to glow, the light being drawn to it easily as his nervousness and anger grew.

However, he kept his cool, waiting for the anger in the man to weaken just a slight amount.
"I take it you don't want to know that... he can get you to her? And no. I'm not talking shit, he's been tearing apart his home to find the... basically, kinda like a mark he used on her arm when she was young. He just never bothered tracking it when you took her- figured that maybe you were right and she deserved something better..." He said incredibly softly, a light frown on his face. Gosh if they knew him like he did... This would be much easier.

He glanced at the house, frown deepening on his face when he saw the light inside. Dang it was bright...

Cedric had to take several deep breaths to calm down.

"She came with her eye almost cut out. She barely has any vision in it. While she was here, we had to do exercises to keep the muscles strong. You think I wanted her to end up like me?" At that he removed his eyepatch, glaring at Rashon with the hollow hole. "That was from that bastard. Some kind of father figure. When I was younger, I was angrier than now. Do you remember the Storms? I had a shard, still do, within me. Lightning's shard. I can't use it, but it can use me. Do you know what that does to a child? Or, better yet, one that can't control its form? Have you ever had every bone in your body shatter under the force of constantly changing, only to reform and shatter again?" With each word, Cedric sank down. The energy he had released to the sky, his head resting on his door frame. He saw Negene out of the corner of his eye and shook his head. No concern.

Looking over towards Maisen, Cedric scowled. "And then within Yvatis, I was sent to speak to the Priests. Commune because I was a form of the Sky, at least according to the Council. They took pretty good care of me, but they refused to let me see the shard. I didn't want to bring it to the core, I wanted to know how to get it out of me. I hate living like this. The first..." Inhaling sharply, he felt his chest clench. "Saandra. She said she knew how to help me. She used to hold me, and the pain would go away... And then she hurt me. She hurt me in ways I still don't get." His eyes locked onto Rashon. "Then she came. She was.. She was as broken as I was. She knew what it was like to go through pain on a daily basis, and she was beautiful. Her body didn't deserve those scars. Those tears. She deserved calm. She deserved air. Like a flower behind a window, always reaching for the light that is almost there, but not quite. She wanted planting."

Turning away, he stared up. No more words. He was tired.

Negene wasn't far off. In fact, he was only a couple feet behind the stranger. Cedric's words... How he talked about his sister. Is that really why she was fascinated with him? Because of the shard he might hold? Gently striding past the boy, he laid a hand on Cedric's shoulder- finger tips just brushing his skin. A look of peace came over the Paradigm before he closed his eyes, resting like he should have done when Negene first left.

Turning towards Rashon, the Amalgam crossed his arms. Light had gathered in the stranger's hands, signalling that he was a Lithomancer of some sort. The Sigils burning on the inside of the cabin could wait. "Why are you here?" The words came out in a murmur, before Negene stepped over Cedric to stride inside. He waved Rashon in, before standing in front of Maisen. His hand moved over the suit's chest, taking away emotions until only the sigil at the top burned. He could feel the discontentment from the false Guardian, especially after he changed the sigil on his chest. No longer did it read Guardian, but Traitor. Fitting for the bastard... If he ever got out for anyone to see what he had become.

Turning slightly to watch the young man, curiosity welled up within him. The emotions were gentle, curiosity and irritation rather than ignorance and anger. How odd, in one who seemed so young. But, he might also be older. The face was hard to pinpoint..

Rashon fell silent, listening in silence to the man. He was wise enough not to speak during that time, keeping his opinions to himself. He knew more than he wanted to about the topic. As Cedric turned, Rashon felt a sense of failure for a few moments before the other man spoke. To answer that, he shook his head. "I guess you weren't here, I... was kinda told deliver that message- here..." He took the partially crumpled note and passed it to Negene before the horned man, "You seem to be a friend of his, so it'll be alright if you have this as well. Just don't lose that copy, it's the last I have on me."

Only on Negene's instruction did he lower his head and follow them inside. "I want to apologise for that, it wasn't exactly the easiest thing for me to have passed on- I could have done that a bit better." Curiosity danced in his eyes as Negene drained something from the set of armour, the thing slowly fading down from its bright colour.

Well, that was disappointing to him, the lights were always comforting to him.

"I didn't come to start a fight, nor to cause so much anger and pain." Rashon rose a hand, rubbing the back of his head in shame. "I'm sorry, my... appearance must seem off to you. I mean, who wears a tie anymore?" Amusement sparked in his eye for a moment. If Negene were to read the backup copy, Rashon would wait for him to finish.

"If you have questions with the note... I can tell you." He crossed his arms, his expression serious, but the same calming emotions still billowed from him.

Cedric would be sleeping, finally. Crossing the room, he put fresh wood in the burner, before carefully coaxing it into a bright blaze. He tossed his bag of fish in the ice box, removing fillets he had cut yesterday and carefully putting them on the griddle over the fire. Seeing that done, he sat himself in one of the wooden chairs, eyes taking in the length of the letter. He had to swallow a foul taste before looking towards Roshan. "The man writing this. Did he take her from Them?"

God. Someone strong enough to go against Them? Without being made by Them? Or was he another experiment who went defunct, like he? Pursing his lips, he carefully turned over the meat of the fish, cooking enough for himself, Roshan, and Cedric. It didn't make much sense. Her anger... If she was an Amalgam, then why didn't she feel like one? Or was she a separate class entirely?

Leaning back in the chair, he stared upwards. If... No. Negene stood quickly, pricking his thumb with the knife until golden liquid came from the wound, and began to draw in the air. It was the sigil of his name, shimmering with its own light. Beside it, he wrote out Cedric's, Roshan's, and finally Vyllaea's. One could learn a lot from the sigils by just staring. Maisen stirred, watching him as he progressed with his line of thought. A quick smearing of his own blood over the wound stopped the wound's seeping, his pace continued.

Cedric wasn't lying. That much was obvious. Dark past, all of it. His last name, though. That was something that was off. Vael. It held no information within it, much like what it was derived from. A veil to cover something up, maybe? He moved his hand through it, the liquid condensing around his palm like a gold leafing.

He moved to Roshan's name. There was no lie in what he said. He was defensive, not only in emotion but also in nature. Steady. Reliable. And he thought of light as a friend, much as his name described. Without knowing the man further, there was nothing else he could glean. He wiped the name away again.

Vyllaea. The name was Yvatian in source, but not fully. The odd curve of her letters.. There was a dark past, much like Cedric's. But, there was also a resilience. She was much like a tree, bending to the wind until the base is under threat. There, she would take her stand. Without her last name as well, he would learn no more. Another wipe.

He stood in front of his own. The curves, the lines. The numbers. 003. That was all he truly was. A number jotted down on a piece of paper, filed away. Used. Leashed. The first eighteen years of his life were spent as a dog. Before that, the other four where he was normal.. He couldn't remember. He didn't want to, either. What would happen to his own mind if he found where he came from?

With a grimace, he wiped his own name as well.

"If you want help, ask. I'll bring Cedric. But," He pointed towards Maisen. "He has to come as well." Flipping the meat onto three separate plates, he handed two fillets to Roshan, and set eight beside the Paradigm's sleeping form. He himself went back to his chair, quietly eating.

Too interesting. That's what his life was, now. But.. If he went with this man. Would he learn about himself? Or would he just be another tool? The way that Cedric had reacted to the letter let him know that there was indeed a danger to his life should he go. But... If he didn't..... Someone that he considered a friend- the first he had ever had in fact -would die.

Roshan hesitated for a few moments, a small furrow coming onto his face. That information was something that he had wanted to be kept secret, but it was also something that this unusual horned man wanted to know. Slowly, the man gave a half nod. "He did take her from Them, but... How is a very different story. You see, he was... Already in a position to be able to take her away easily." He clamped his mouth shut, blood rushing from his face as he realised that he almost gave away something that his sender wanted to talk to them about.

In awed silence, Roshan leaned forward slightly, watching as he wrote names down in pure gold, their names shimmering in the low light. He watched as the man wrote down their names- but only included Cedric's last name. A frown danced across his face, why did he not write down Vyllaea's last name?

He waited patiently, watching him in silence as he worked, knowing better than to interrupt an expert at work. Finally, he wrote down a series of numbers as well as a name...

That too was cleared away.

Roshan thanked the man, who he was guessing was 'Negene' for the food. The man had always enjoyed having fish, but... It had to be cooked in the right way.

At the offer which was made to him, he inclined his head in appreciation. "That would be fantastic if you could speak with him. As for the haunted armour," Maisen pulled at his shackles, "that can come as well. Just so long as it behaves..." His voice trailed off, glancing to the place where he had written the names, yet refused to put down her last name... Didn't he know?

"I do not mean to pry, but... Why didn't you write down Vyllaea's last name, like you had with Cedric...? I'm just asking as I couldn't help but admire your work, it was... rather beautiful if I have to admit it, but why not include her name...? Is it important to include both last and first names?" Roshan faltered slightly- perhaps he was asking too much himself...

Negene shook his head. If he was within Their grasp, he couldn't be good. Yet the honesty being given off of this young man was astounding, almost palpable in innocence. Pursing his lips, he quickly ate. It had been days since he had given his body nourishment, and though it wasn't always necessary it was good to remain in habit of such things.

"Cedric will be easy to convince. He's just... He's gone through a lot. His dreams are of his past, and.. Anyone would go insane with that constantly bearing down on them. Please forgive him. She made his life easier." As for his next question... "It's.. Because I don't know her last name. Each of those names hold meaning, and even though... Even though I don't have a last name. A lot can be learned from just the first name. The last name is of Heritage. At least, it has been from everything I've read through my life. For example, Cedric has no family. Nor I, technically. Maisen's sister-" The runes blazed into life as the armor strained, and Negene had to calmly look at him to finish his sentence. "His sister is safe, unable to be harmed by anyone of my kind. Even myself, now. They made sure of it, as they put it in her Name." Setting his plate aside, he tilted his head. The young man was honest, so honest in fact that it showed in his emotions like a lighthouse calling to a boat.

"Maisen will come and behave. I'll make sure of it. But... I ask you tell us. Is this a trap?" Negene's eyes flickered black. "I'll know if you're lying."

As he was speaking, Roshan made quick work of the fish, the taste incredibly unique. It wasn't as delicious as others he'd had, but still, quite good. But reliving events from the past made his eyes gleam in regret. It couldn't be nice to live through that, again and again, without having someone to lift them up anymore. "You mean, you never asked her last name, nor even ask Cedric for it?" He sounded surprised as well as a little astonished. Tilting his head a little and glancing up at the roof, Rashon considered his own question for a few moments. Maybe he just never had the time to speak to them about it, especially if things were just hectic as hell for either of them.

Roshan did his best to absorb the knowledge in Negene's explanation. He had been taught and instructed of some of these things, but he had never felt a confidence coming from the person as they had spoken about the topic. Negene was... Quite unique in that fact.

At the statement of 'behaving', the haunted armour pulled against his prison again before falling silent. Roshan sighed at Negene's question, before looking him in the eyes. "If this were a trap I would not be speaking to you about it, instead, I would be who knows where... No. It's not a trap. He's seen Cedric when he's mad, that's why he's accepted that by doing this, he's going to die anyway. He is NOT trying to hurt anyone- despite what he was forced to do to Vyllaea when he took her from Them." His hand slightly clenched at his side, finding a sudden interest in the knife in front of him.

"All. He wants. Is to talk and know that Vyllaea is in safe hands. I am not lying to you when I state that his house, when I left, had books and several other things just scattered all across the surface as he was trying to refind the mark... And also the damn Seal..." Roshan sighed, shaking his head. "Everything I have said to you since I came here is, as far as I know, the complete and utter truth."

"Where I am from, your name is nothing but a set of digits declared by your birthing order." The words were blunt, but honest. Swallowing his bitterness, he sneered at Maisen. "I'll be using you as a suit of armor, just in case. Penitence, for what you've done to me." Standing slowly, darkness billowed around him before clinging to his figure.

"With Names... The most power they give comes when given by the owner's lips, or someone they love. To ask is to lose the truth." Shrugging it off, he began to walk towards Maisen.

"As for Vyllaea... I'm afraid it's too late. She was taken two weeks ago- it's why Cedric's so angry. His heart's hurting again."

"Oh shit."

The words left his mouth before he could stop them and his eyes flared in sudden worry. With a spin on his heel, the man slightly paced, the shoes almost silent against the ground. "Two weeks, that's how long she's been gone? The Seal was only meant to last for two when they found it!" Roshan hesitated again, forcing himself to stop and, ever so slowly, he looked to Negene. "Sorry, that caught me off guard. My apologies for the use of such language so suddenly." He gently chewed the inside of his cheek, his mind deep in thought.

"Vy is stubborn... If she didn't bow like she normally doesn't. If she pushed the boundaries... No no, there's no promise that they already figured out that from her... unless He was there..." Roshan shut himself up, before giving Negene a slightly apologetic smile. He knew that he talked a hell of a lot, but that's just something that he couldn't help.

Negene's blood ran ice cold. The way he spoke, it was as if he knew Them. His eyes never left the boy, reading his emotions easily. Swallowing against the dryness of his throat, he took a careful step forward- reaching out.

"They have her. Maisen was Their pawn... How.. How do you know Them?" Was this guy an Amalgam? Where did he come from,
and how did he enter his life with such an immediate effect...

"I..." Was he seriously about to tell this stranger about himself? No.. No way.

"I don't know of Them personally, but the one who has sent me does. He knows Them very, very well. He use to be one of the head scientists for them," Roshan paused, his eyes glimmering nervously, wondering if he had spoken too much. "I'm from Elsewhere, banished from my homelands. But the one who I speak for taught me a lot of what I do now know. I've even seen the fi-..." He sighed, no. He couldn't say that, they wouldn't be too impressed with him.

"If they have her, then we need to leave as soon as we possibly can- it's a fair walk unless you can fly. Or ride the light, then it's easier." Roshan gave an easy shrug, unphased at all by the fact that Negene was reaching out to him. "Just... Make sure Cedric doesn't kill him before the explanation when we get there, please. You both will need to know what she's been subconsciously hiding with that Seal..."

Striding towards Maisen, Negene entered the armor. Maisen struggled for a split moment, at least until the Siren began to eat the emotions he gave off. The chains easily released him, sigils not burning. Clearing his throat, Negene rolled his shoulders- awkwardly moving over to Cedric's prone form before picking him up.

"I'm afraid I can't do much more than open a Portal. I have no idea where he lives, but.. I want my questions answered as well." His stomach flipped, decision made. "I'll just need to.. Touch you while you have it in your mind. That is, of course, if you don't mind."

Roshan blinked with surprise when he literally just walked right into and through the haunted armour. After the rather brief struggle, the thing holding back the armour slowly was released and- HOLY CRAP. Roshan took a step back in surprise, seeing that suddenly moving wasn't something that he was used to, he really wasn't expecting that armour too move. He so wasn't expecting that...

Slowly, Roshan nodded, swallowing the lump in his throat away. "I can assure you, he and myself will answer anything you need to have the answer too after he has spoken. But, that is assuming that Cedric does decide to take him up on the other option that he has." Roshan straightened his tie, realising it wasn't perfectly straight.

As Negene spoke, the other man being slung over his shoulder, Roshan shrugged. "That's utterly fine by me, completely okay and all that. Whenever you're ready." Roshan said with a smile, his mind already picturing the cottage-like home at the edge of the sea, the trees towering overhead to supply their leafs as shade. Purple flowers carpeted the grass covered ground.

It was a gorgeous place that Roshan was always mildly jealous of.

Reaching out, Negene touched Roshan's cheek. Thoughts of the cottage, and the emotions that Roshan assigned with it, filled his mind. Before him, the gold that covered his hand sprung into life once more, drawing into the air a sigil that was taller than the suit of armor itself. When it was fully formed, it took a moment before the realm split, the spacial distortion flashing to the cabin- just half a mile away from it really.

Turning to Roshan, he nodded his head. "You'll have to hurry, I can't guarantee I can keep this up for a very long time- even with Maisen as a battery. As soon as I go through, it'll shut."

Roshan didn't waste any time, stepping through the portal on Negenes command. Although, he was rather impressed. It was such a rare sight to see someone actually able to conjure portals, let alone a someone who could create them from what someone was thinking, and have a perfectly accurate image! Outstanding!

Waves crashed against the shores, birds chirped happily in their branches. The wind was gentle, not a howling gale like some have managed to expect from such perilous areas. Roshan smiled, feeling the warmth of the sun on his back, it was quite rejuvenating, like it was refreshing his strength. However, he wasn't too caught in his thoughts, waiting for Negene to follow through. After he had, Roshan walked over to one of the doors, knocking on it twice.

It was a habit he was taught.

"I'm coming, I'm co-" A rather loud thud was heard, followed by several dark curses and small explosion of fire. The man quickly doused it, before rushing over to the door and opening. "Roshan! Who..." The mans voice fell, the scientist recognising all his creations as he looked at Maisen. Why the bloody hell was HE carrying around that thunder master...? Unless...

He lightly frowned, Maisen... He couldn't create portals, could he..? That... Must have meant...?

Roshan cleared his throat meaningfully and the man shook his head, "Apologies for staring... My names Vance."

Negene's eyes widened as he stared in. Vague memories flicking through his mind like a slide show, nausea rising in his mind's eye. Confusion and concern colored the man's emotional Aura, just as he snapped out of the reverie when Vance cleared his throat.

"I need to set him down.." It was all he could say, surprise hitting him harder than he had anticipated. What was he seeing? Those memories.. They were like grasping at water, the images slipping through his minds eye quicker than he could glean information from them. Adjusting Cedric on his shoulder carefully, he slipped a hand beneath the Paradigm's jacket to feel his emotions. He was still asleep, and probably would be for an hour more. The poor bastard was exhausted..

Roshan and Vance exchanged a few glanced, the older man seeming reluctant to have them here. Vance nodded, before opening the door before him. "Please excuse the mess though,
I've been busy searching for a few things that I thought I had. But apparently don't anymore."
True to his word, books and scrolls, runes and other small magic items lined the area, piling and spilling off any and all surfaces that he had. Aside from the several couches he had, "There's chairs in there- you can place him there."

Roshan walked towards Negene, offering his assistance if he needed it. "You just surprised him, don't mind Vance. He's a bit of a scatter brain when surprised, but he can be a cold hearted bastard when he needs to be."

Vance heard the last comment and gave Roshan a raised eyebrow, "And may I ask why you have decided that bringing Maisen here is a good idea?"

Roshan blinked, "So that's the name of the haunted armour! Well, you see, that was the condition in which he came, he had to come as well. Not Cedric, the... Guy in the haunted armour?"

Vance's face fell.

Not one. BUT TWO. Of them were in his house. This was not what he wanted, but safety in numbers... He shut the door behind the four guests, before awkwardly walking over to Negene, Vance's heart pounding from nerves. His stark hair was long, unkempt, but the eyes were blazing with life.

"Vy...?" A shake of Roshan's head made Vance's face flash with anger. His work. All the pain they both went through. It was going to be undone by that MONSTER. Roshan sighed, turning to Negene, "Is there anything I can get you...? Food? Drinks?"

Grimacing, Negene carefully put down Cedric in one of the chairs before standing. "He'll need water and food when he wakes. He spent a lot of energy searching for her, his Travelers runes are burnt out for today. He has to stay within the Center..." A grimace, then. Vance had easily recognized Maisen, and it wasn't the good kind. Even if he was currently unable to see, feel, sense where he was... Maisen was a danger. Even with his marked sigils gone.

"Maisen's unconscious, if that's what troubles you. I.. I'm out of..." Negene went silent. "I will muzzle myself, if... If it makes you willing to help Cedric and Vyllaea." His stomach felt like ice was filling it, dread chilling his ethereal veins. This man was his only option to help her, and if that meant.. If that meant muzzling, he would do it.

"But... Please. Only if it helps them."

Roshan nodded at what Negene was saying, before giving a slight bow. "I'll make him something to eat, hopefully it won't be too much- I have a habit of making waay too much food. Like, I made a buffet for like 4 people. That thing had around 14 different dishes!" Roshans voice faded as he went to work in the kitchen, firing up stoves, oven, chopping and slashing of knives sounding through the hall as he worked.

Vance listened, before giving a small smile and he waved a hand away, "Negene...You're fine. I do not see a reason to muzzle you, you seem to be quite tame at the moment anyway." The only reason he was able to tell what his name was was simply because of the haunted armour and the fact that he had managed to tame Maisen.

With a hand gesture, Vance gestured to the chairs; "Take a seat, you must have questions for me...? And we have time to burn until Cedric wakes up again and Roshan finishes preparing the food for him."

Rather than ruin one of his chairs, Negene found a place on the floor to sit cross-legged on. THe smells from the kitchen hit him through Maisen's armor, causing him to shake his head. "That's going to wake Cedric up as soon as it's near him. He's a sucker for food.." Frowning internally, the Siren felt like a child. Questions, bright and burning came to the forefront of his mind, just like those same human fears.

"I.. Why was I used like I was? Just a leash for the Shayds, the Levatiah. And... A hound." The word was bitter, and he spat it out quickly. Memories of chasing through the shadows after Amalgams trying to escape the Lab. A shudder left him. "I.. I remember bits and pieces of you... But nothing concrete." His eyes never left Cedric's form, watching as he was beginning to show signs of stirring. It was a lot quicker than he expected, maybe thirty minutes or such. The food was definitely the aide for that.

"That's great!! See, Vance! My cooking can't be that bad!" Roshan called from the kitchen, making Vance sigh and shake his head. That boy... Sometimes he just wanted to put a darn muzzle on him so he could just shut up sometimes.

He watched as the armour decided to take a seat on the floor, and as he asked, Vance felt his heart fall. Slowly, he shook his head, "Because they were unsure of what you could really do. You see, they enjoy testing boundaries, finding out what their creations can and cannot do."
Vance walked over to one of the many piles of paperwork that he had made, before resting his hand against a particular file that he stole. His hand covered the main points, but parts of a word could be made out; 'ent: 1'.

"You probably remember me as one of the aids, handling the initial tests and ensuring that things were running smoothly. I don't generally interact with the creations." It made him sick, thinking of these things before him nothing more than successful experiments. That's all They wanted.

Suddenly, Roshan popped his head into the room from the doorway. "Sorry, but we only seem to have fish- what sorts of them does he like?" He asked, Vance gave a heavy sigh, slowly shaking his head. This kid...

"Food, Roshan. I've yet to feed him something that's cooked properly he won't eat." A chuckle came out of him, but it was hollow. They had wanted to test him, that's all his existence was. A series of numbers, variables, jotted down on paper to be used like a set of tools.

Bitterness welled in him, and the shadows around the room began to contort to it. Realizing that his anxiety was... Becoming an issue, Negene took several deep breaths. Vance was an aide, probably the one that had written down Negene's vitals as he performed his duties as a cage dog.

Looking down at his hands, he saw the gold flecks of his blood. "Then why can I.. Do what I do? Most of the Amalgam only have one Aspect, like a one-trick-pony. Why can I make portals, Runes, Gears, Sigils? Where's..." Thoughts flickered back to the young woman with one arm, a delicate flower in a desert. Her soft violet hair, kind eyes.. Syrein...

Lost for words, all Negene could do was stare at Vance, hoping that somehow the older man would be able to read his thoughts. The only man-made Amalgam that existed. 001. She had an actual Father, though... Shuddering at the memories of Them trying to reproduce her, the Siren went silent- pulling Maisen's knees up to his chest and resting his forehead between them.

"Well, that's helpful. Vance, I'm stealing the salmon! He might like that, but if I remember right, he might devour the rest of your stash that you have in here!" Roshan sounded almost impressed and overly enthusiastic, before diving back into the kitchen. Vance groaned quietly, "He always enjoys stealing those prizes from me..."

He turned his attention back to Negene, the sound of slashing blades coming from the kitchen once more. Vance watched closely as the troubled one seemed to become uneasy, the shadows around him beginning to twist unnaturally. Hmm, so him being distressed did do that... Vance shook his head. No. Don't think like that. He was your guest.

Vance slowly nodded, "I don't want to seem cruel to you, but that's all they wanted you for. To create things for them, for transportation, for restraining. Basically to make sure they weren't inconvenienced." Seeing the armour pull its knees to their chest, Vance sighed lightly, shaking his head. He hated seeing them like this, even with what he had done to the other one, he felt... A true pain for this boy. What he did to her was to stop her from murdering others by accident.

"If it's any comfort to you... You were the second last straw for me." He walked over to Negene, before kneeling on the ground next to him. Remorse flowing from him, he placed a hand on his shoulder. "I honestly... Felt horrible for everything that we did to you. Using you as... a... damn battery...

I'm sorry, Negene."

For once in his life, Negene couldn't tell whether he was lying or not. The contact should've made it easy, sensing the curiosity at Negene's lack of control was easy, sensing his irritation at Roshan was easy, but this? This made the Siren's blood run cold. Swallowing his fear, he stared down to the floor.

"I removed Maisen's runes. He can't go back, now. I also put sigils on the inside of his armor. He can't hurt anyone unless I break them... But... Elaaine... Saandra... Syrein, Tidus, Euri, Morganne....." He remembered the names of his past allies, how they struggled to survive when thrown into the Pits. Hell, he remembered restraining Morganne so that they could remove her eyes. He was the one who felt remorse, who drew the Sigil that let her see.

Like a switch, the emotions flooded. Anger, sorrow, betrayal, hurt, sadness, ruefulness, bitterness, all of it flooded through him. The shadows around them expanded the floor, the cabin, locking them in a blank room of black. He was hyperventilating, struggling against the surge of emotions before quickly standing- stumbling away and to the window. It took him a moment to find the latch, pushing it open for the shadows to expel themselves, returning to nature. Still, the emotions overboiled, and he felt.. He felt..

Reaching up to his eye, he pulled back his hand. Golden ichor gleamed at him, droplets running down his face even as he remained within Maisen.
